I'm referring to the ***** on the vents that open/close them.

Are these ***** removable? (Planning on spraying them white to match the rest of my interior trim) or are the vents themselves removable?

I haven't tried giving them a good tug or anything, I'm afraid I might snap something off.

If you take the dash trim off you can see that the vents can be removed from it. They are clipped in from the backside. This is at least the case for the '06's and a good guess the '05's as well. I cannot fully comment on earlier model years but they may also be clipped in.

As far as taking them further apart, I really don't know. I know when I installed my carbon fiber dash (and other times the dash has been removed)they didn't look like they came apart but I didn't fully examine them either.
