Specs on the KW Coilovers
This group buy is being run through KW Suspensions North America. All money will be paid directly to KW North America. I collect nothing.
Here is a summary of the Group Buy terms and conditions as laid out by KW Suspensions North America. This is an introductory offer and as such will not be repeated at a later date.

1) Shipping would depend directly on stock level. Our first order
should clear customs and arrive to us early to mid next week. A lot of
these kits are pre selling, but if we have some of these kits still in

2) As for money collection, customers would call our
toll free order line at 888-530-1433 ext 101 (that will put them to me)
and we will take the order info & payment info. Cards will be charged a
50% deposit, once the min. # of 10 people has been hit, we will contact
the customers, start processing the remaining amount, and ship the kits.
The remaining amount will not be charged until the kits are shipping.
September 30,2002 will be the final day for taking orders.

According to KW everyone should have their coilovers by the end of the 2nd week of October (maybe sooner).

I like the looks of them but not being mechanic and new to the MINI family what is this product actually going to do for my car beside looks. And is the part it will be replacing not very good? I see these in lots of catalogs but really don't understand the theroy of what they actually do. Will it void the warrenty? And are they easy to install? If not whom do you bring them to to install and after they are installed how eay are they to adjust? Thanks for the info. :smile:

I'll try to answer some of your questions. KW will also be monitoring this group buy and chiming in to help answer questions.
There is a nice explanation of what coilover do on the KW site.
In short, they allow you to lower your car while still retaining excellent ride characteristics - since the springs and shocks are matched and designed for lowering. Where as, just installing sport springs on the stock dampers (the alternative way to lower your MINI) would have mismatched damping for the stiffer spring rates. Plus, with just sport springs, you have now decreased the amount of availalable travel from the stock shocks.
As for installation, your MINI dealership may do them for you or an independent suspension specialist could install them as well. Regardless of who does the installation, your MINI should get the alignment reshot after the install because the suspension geometry has changed.

The coilover group buy failed to reach critical mass.
