New member and What are these leaks?

I have a 2002 S Electric Blue and just got a 2009 S (Below)

It has been in the mid to high 90s here and on the 09 just noticed these leaks coming from the side of the car just under where the bonnet and the car body meet. Both sides. There is also the same leak under the trunk lid on the rear bumper. No oder and no color - greasy.

WTF?

Pics coming.

Sounds like it might be cosmoline. They dip the car in it for the boat ride from England and then are supposed to hose it all off when it gets here. Sometimes they dont do a good job rinsing it off.

Welcome! A year later the stuff still oozes out of my car. It just doesn't get hot enough here in Hawaii to melt it all out I guess.

Thats it, yellow goo, cosmoline. Where was your VDC? My wife VDC was Port Hueneme. She was week 19 of this year. She has had no problems and everybody from her week group from the same VDC has not noticed it.

Unfortunately if you don't catch it in time it can permanently stain those plastic parts.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Cleaned it up and told my wife to keep an eye on it.

Here is her other Mini.

My 2007 also went through Port Hueneme, and no problems with cosmoline leakage. Seems they do a pretty good job there. BMW needs to get on some of the other VDC's. There have been a number of cosmoline problems reported on this board lately.

My 09 that came through NYC has major cosmo leakage, to the point where I'll probably have the dealer replace the 2 front wheel arches next time I'm there...permanent stain.

Mine leaks a lot too. I am dropping my car off tomorrow for some other service and will ask about it.

I'm in Washington and my bf's cooper leaked the cosmoline only a few days after he got in in June It really isn't hot out here either so I think they just put too much on there. We also had problems with the washer nozzles leaking which turned into a huge fiasco....

Mine did it last summer when I got it. I took a whole day and got as much off as I could. I have not seen any this summer yet and we have had some hot days. But when I get my JCW areo kit I'm going to get the fenders with out the lights. I don't have any major stains that I wasn't able to get before they were bad.

We had it 1 day after we got it lol....4 trips to the dealer in the first month is not a good thing :| We finally drained all the fluid and replaced it with water so all is well. They wet sanded it the first time, buffed it the second and put a check valve in, third time they replaced all the nozzle components, and 4th time said they didn't see it happening so washed and buffed it and sent us on our way... with a good sized scuff and some lovely buffer burns in the paint. But I love the cooper lol

Mine went through Port Hueneme (week 11) and it started leaking after it got hot here. I put a little piece of paper towel in a hole in the hood frame above where it was coming out and that seems to have stopped it from getting on the wheel arch. I made sure the air can still circulate, but not the cosmoline. I plan to keep an eye on the area and change the paper towel from time to time.

What's a Cosmoline? My MINI does that leak also, I opened the bonnet and it looks like it's coming from the valves that keep the bonnet in place. Am I wrong?

I think you must be wrong. Valves are devices that control the flow of fluids or gasses. I don't see how they could be used to keep the bonnet in place.
