R56 with gt28 and Unichip

Finally had time to post a video of the intake mod and my car running on the gt28rs turbo. I have a unichip with the 93 octane/ cold air map and it runs fairly well. Had to put MAF sensor inside the intake and leave an 1/8" gap to let estra air in same as they do on some other cars. This made the car run a lot smoother and added a bit more power. I ordered a tuning kit for the unichip so i can tune it myself since i can not find anyone to tune on this chip. That won't happen till the fall.

THANK YOU! Thank you for doing this. Regardless of reliability or compressor surge or explosions, not saying this is an issue, thank you for experimenting with the car. It looks like it works well. I'm glad to see someone applying some new ideas. New to MINIs anyway.

Good luck with this.

Also, what mods do you have in your 0-200 vid? It certainly doesn't sound stock. And I certainly don't think my MINI is nearly that fast...

wow on the MAF location....

I'm surprised the thing even runs....

It's going to be a nightmare to tune.

I had/have Cold air, 3" exh, intercooler, unichip- mostly Alta stuff it's good and installs nice with their instructions. I also run the MiniMania intake muffler delete pipe and 20mm front/16 mm back spacers behind 225/35/18 tires.

I think the issue you had was that there was only so much "you" could do with it. It should be able to do more than any other system and it leaves no mark on the stock map for the dealers to complain about. If it only gives me 16 psi i can live with that.

not sure what cels are from mods or just from car because I had lots before. Just ignore them. I have it in at the dealer right now for a water pump leak and brakes so I will see what they have to say. If you ask me the Mini's have an over active computer. Looking forward to when someone puts out a code clearer.

the magic point is 15psi max with the gt28 rs and the unichip run s verry strong, andr runs save low 11afr,but passed the point off 16psi the ecm just closes the trottle body at 5600rpm why its a mistery for now even if i shoot watermeth it doesnt make a differance ,or the maf is maxed out out off range or the map sensor, ive been driving for 3000miles and hard with this set up and no problem what so ever just the comon p115d that the unichip trows every 300miles but i can leave with that until the car gets a real tune ,one day i hope.....comon tuners

Saludos,

I always thought you would need to do ecu modifications to be able to run a gt28 turbo on the car. Is it possible to do just the instalation of the bigger turbo without programming, just a turbo back exahust, intercooler and silicone hoses all over and the factory ecu will compensate? Of course while some one figures out how to crack the codes to really program the car.

Please advice, Thanks in advanced.

until you post a dyno I'm not going to believe anything you say. You keep talking this and that but haven't posted anything that proves anything.

It's been 5 months since you first talked about the gt28 and we still haven't seen any kind of proof from you.

I wouldn't do it without at least putting in an air/fuel and exaust gas temp. gauge. Then you could at least lay off the throtle if the gas temp gets to high or fuel gets to low and save your motor. I am runing a unichip and you can tell the exauste heats up fast on one map than the other. Both will put out more fuel than your stock map will. In two months i should have a do-able unichip map. I am to busy right now to "play" with the programing. I have a hard time believing Mtuning that it would not work because the unichip is more programable than any other add on.
