I was reading through the manual on my MCS and I noticed that both driver's and passenger side windows have one touch down (no brainer, I knew this before I bought the car). But then I noticed that the book said that the drivers side has one touch up only when the engine is running (passenger side does not have it). So of course I go and try it, but it doesn't work.

So then I am thinking that it is a dealer programmed option, however there is not one of those little "dealer programmed option" icons in this section of the manual. I talk to the dealer and he tells me that the US spec cars do not have the one touch up option for safety issues (more like litigation issues if you ask me since the US is the "sue happy" capital of the world). My 1995 M3 has one touch up and down so I call BS on that "safety issue".

So now my question is, is there any way to turn this feature on in a US spec car? I find it hard to believe that Mini (or rather BMW) would design a different switch or circuit board just for US spec cars for something as simple as this. I would think it would be either hidden in the programming or maybe changing a few wires some place in the car. I know for my M3 (or any E36 BMW for that matter) one touch up/down was physically controlled in the switch. In other words, if your car did not have it, you could just go to the dealer and buy a new window switch that was capable of one touch up and down. Any ideas??

Not in North America or specifically the U.S. Does not meet U.S. saftey specification to have enabled. The program for the BMW models meet U.S. specification and thus the reason why they can have it enabled. MINI shares a lot from its parent company but does not share everything.

VW has it, some of them stops if u give a pressure some of them could kill you if you put you head in between.

I really dont know what type of BS is that. My roomate has a 04 VW Passat it dont stop when you put pressures on, but i saw some of the Jetta dose. I drove a 03 Lexus RS and ES they have it. this is what pissing me off! if is not safe lets not let anyone do it.
Non of the Sunroof stops when you put u hands on???

Let say sunroof has less risks, OK. back to windows, not all cars has the tech like Lexus, but still there are cars has the function.

It must be a way to do it. I really think it is a good function. I rather to sign a paper says that i transfer all risks and responsabilities into my own. I dont care all the BS they say, I just want a function which is IN the car already, with NO EXTRA parts required.

My wife's 2002 Honda CR-V has Auto-Up feature so it can't be that big of a trick. If just a small amount of pressure is applied to the window while it is going up, it will stop. Couldn't pinch your fingures hard enough to hurt so I'm sure wouldn't crush someones neck.

This is one of several examples where the MINI manual does not reflect reality, much like the nonexistent emergency hatch release ring under the rear seat. I'm surprised that they haven't corrected it yet.

I agree that this is a really lame thing for MINI to omit. Obviously it was difficult for them to keep the price of the car as low as they did, but I for one would gladly have paid the extra $50 or whatever it would take for this safety feature to be installed. I thought all new cars with power windows had this feature.

Haven't any of these people ever been through a toll booth in heavy rain?

can the switch be replaced with the one from the euro model? i know that on the 3-series, one has to pull the switch twice and the window goes up. there's a little resistance to switch. one can feel the resistance. maybe the euro model has this type of switches...

I was by Global Imports (Atlanta) about a couple months ago when a new owner was picking up his new MINI. The dealer was showing him the features, and one feature was closing the windows and sunroof with the key remote. I was told this was a new feature with the '04 models. I don't know if it can be programmed to do the same from the toggle switches or not.
