Jump start voids warranty? WTF?

My wife's 05 MCc wouldn't start this morning. She just gets clicks. I assume it's just the battery and came home to jump start the car. While I was on my way home, my wife called the dealer and they told her if I tried to jump start the car, it would void the warranty.

Has anyone experienced this or been told this?

Concidering that there are instructions on how to jump the car in the Manual.. I would call BS. Now if you, somehow, jump it wrong, I could see where the dealer will take exception. (So don't do that )

This has not happened to me in my Mini but other car manufacturers do not seem to have a problem with it.

That's pretty sleazy of the dealer. Relax and read the manual.

STLMINI,

Did you managed to get this resolved with the dealer? Just curious concerning the disposition?

Yeah, I did. I called the service manager myself and asked him to clarify. He said that jump starting the car would NOT void the warranty. However, damaging the car while incorrectly jumping the car would not be covered.

Fair enough, I think.

That definately sounds more reasonable. I am glad you got it worked out.
