Drivetrain Alta Exhaust Install ?
Alta Exhaust Install ?
So I installed my Alta Exhaust the other night, and have an annoying rattle. I assume I need to just cut/bend the bracket with the hangers on it (I'll know for sure later today) but I remember that the pipe that connects to the header (the pipe with the resonator) could be installed either way. How do I know I have it rotated correctly, or is the clearance the same either way? (I installed it with the seam on the resonator towards the top of the car).
Thanks!
Thanks!
Just re-check all connections and brackets, make sure they are all tight. I think I remember someone reporting that if you have a short shifter it may hit?!? (not sure though) I've had mine one for almost 100,000 miles now w/ no rattles at all.
Good Luck!

I had what is probably the same problem with my Alta exhaust. The problem it that the right rear hanger taps on a part of the frame right at the upper bend. It seems like something they should have noticed at Alta. I didn't want to mess with having to go to an exhaust shop to move the hanger, so I just found an old polyurathane bushing laying around and stuck it on the hanger where it rubbed and problem solved. so far it has lasted me about 8k miles so I am happy with the repair. Overall I am not that happy with the exhaust. the rattle is one thing, then you'll notice that the tips never sit straight, mine always lean to the left and have since started to melt the bumper. next the chrome is peeling off the tips as well it just looks like crap. and the exhaust is only a year and a half old and never driven in snow, and rarely in rain. needless to say I am in the market for a new exhaust and will not be purchasing anything from Alta again.
sorry for the rant, I home my fix helps!

To the op, hope you get it worked out. I know what its like to have that rattle
I got it fixed, seemed it was the v-clamp hitting the square bracket that has the two hanger bushings in it too. I cut out a little piece right where it was hitting and viola, no more rattle :-)
Thanks again for choosing ALTA and for the support!
Rattles me nuts!

I am expecting delivery of my Alta exhaust today. Too bad I saw this thread ... makes me worried.
Good to know that the rattle can be fixed, too bad it sounds like a common problem. Not good to hear chrome peals off (I avoided the black due to the high cost and heard the finish doesn't last). I believe the melting issue should be fixed with the current tips (I think the older ones weren't double walled)
Oh well, hopefully my install goes well and the exhaust lasts. This is my daily driver and it will be seeing snow (unless global warning really kicks in
)

)The new tip you have is NOT single walled and is double walled. The Black is VERY durable powder coated and not painted like some theorized.
You shouldn't have any issues with rattles etc. Using due care when orientating the system, clamps, etc. along with following the instructions will insure a successful installation the first time! But don't hesitate to call, PM or e-mail with any questions or concerns.
Thanks again for choosing ALTA!
the adjustment points should be pretty easy to see. But if you do have any questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail, Pm or call us. Thanks for the business!
The V-band clamps help immensely for adjustment. When I first installed my exhaust on the Clubman....I bolted it all up and it was WAY off! I was like "CRAP!"!! After about 5 minutes of loosening the clamps and moving things around its perfectly centered. Take your time when it comes to the precision adjustments. You will thank yourself later!

Got installed over weekend. Love it's quality, finish and of course sounds/performance.
No rattling issue at all but it's bit off to left side as you see below picture.
Don't want to damage by hammering on tip side so tried to push in towards right hand side as much as i can but it won't go in further right.
Any suggestion on adjustment?
thanks.

minicati, maybe put some oil on the tip where it connects to the other pipe and twist it back and forth (like screwing it on) to get it to slide on further (to the right). Doesn't look like you have that much more to go.
I just installed mine too. Here is a write up I did:

Let us know how things go! Thanks again!
minicati, how did you install the rear most hanger? When looking at the rear of the car, mine is installed like a "7" (top part pointing left toward the battery box.) If you installed it with the top pointing right, I could see how that would shift everything more left. Just trying to cover all bases.
Mine is 2003 so i used the one shape like 'L' so it's not towards to battery box. I did try after wd40 over that joint and twisted to get it in further right but after it reaches some point just stuck. I'll try again this weekend hope it goes to center.
By the way nice write up
