Does anyone know if the OEM iPod Interface Adaptor will charge the 16ghz 3G iPhone and if it will play iTunes music from iPhone?

I have a 3G iPhone and the 1st-gen OEM iPod adaptor. It will play music from the phone, access playlists, and all the normal functions, but it will *not* charge the phone. You will also get a warning that the OEM iPod interface is not designed to work with the iPhone, and it will prompt you to turn on "Airplane Mode" to prevent interference, but you can just dismiss that warning - I've never had interference issues.

I got the Scosche Passport adapter from my local Apple store and attached it to the OEM iPod interface. Now, everything works the same but the OEM iPod interface also charges the phone. I also have an older iPod Video that's my normal jukebox for the car, and the Passport works fine with it as well. (The OEM iPod interface charged the iPod Video just fine without the Passport, but I wanted to make sure I could just leave the Passport in place all the time and just swap back and forth between the iPhone and the iPod Video.)

No, it's not bad at all - here's a picture to give you an idea of the size:
