Alarm $228 vs $500

I hope I'm posting this in the right spot... so forgive me if I'm not!

I'm in the market for a 2009 mini-S... and my question is regarding the alarm (which I know is a controversial topic around here, but an alarm is a must for me).

On the online configurator there are 2 alarms, but one is priced at $228 and the other for $500. What is the difference between the 2?

Also, for add-ons in general- when I build my mini online the total comes to $27,528. Is this what I can expect to pay ( plus tax, etc. ) or does the dealer add on any additional costs once the the car has been delivered (such as labor costs)?

I don't know anyone who hasn't bought a car straight off the lot, so this whole ordering thing is very confusing to me.

Thanks for any insight!

When using the online configuration - once you are at step 5 (I think), the website issues a box with some configuration verbiage that says something like "past this point your accessory selections are installed by the dealer and will cost you to have the dealer install these options" Do you agree?. When you checked 'I Agree' you agreed to pay the dealer what ever he charges, and no, these fee's are not included in the Web site configuration price. $500 alarm - installed at the factory, $228 alarm - delivered in a box.

Other that the above situation & option selection the web site price is the retail 'MSRP' price. Dealer installed option, including MINI parts or window tint ETC add to that price. You will also want to ask about warranty add on coverage such as extended mechanical coverage, Wheel and Tyre warranty- ETC. Negotiating the final drive out, considering all of the above is a much bigger discussion.
