Alta, where are we?

Hey guys, where is the "secret weapon" you guys were suppose to get almost a year ago?

I was told to be patient and that something new was "around the corner". I waited several months and finally broke down and bought the JCW stage I kit.

Now, almost a year later, the car is gone and I've got a JCW. I STILL don't see anything new?

What's up? How much longer? Or do we need to wait for some tuning guru to finally get something done?

Thanks,

Mark

As long as the aftermarket can make loads of money picking the low hanging fruit don't expect them to dedicate resources to challenging projects.

That makes perfect sense to an extent. The problem is, some of these companies that specifically make their money on tuning are running out of "low hanging fruit". They can't keep tuning 1st gen cars as more and more 2nd gen minis are coming out.

Companies like Alta that makes money on products other than one specific tuning product, well, I guess you hit it on the head.f

Sad really....

Orangecrush, I understand your frustration...but a lot of research and development has been done and it seems as though within a few months, a few companies are going to have tunes out at the same time and you will be left wondering which one you want instead of sayying why aren't there any. You waited this long...whats a couple more months...

I understand some of you guys' frustration about waiting for a decent tune. I am sure some of you guys are already aware of what I am going to say but let me say it: While some more horsepower would be nice, horsepower alone isn't everything on a race track.

I am not bragging, but at my first time at Sebring, my best lap time was around 2 minutes and 51 seconds in my MCS with JCW Stage 1 tuning kit and JCW suspension. This was my third time at a race track in my lifetime. Also, I found out the typical lap time of a good driver in an E46 M3 on the same track is around 2 minutes and 36 seconds. So I was about 15 seconds slower than an E46 M3. I could probably get closer to the M3's lap time if I can improve my driving skills some more. So at this point I am more interested in improving my driving skills than adding more horsepower to my car! If someone comes out with a decent reliable tune in the meantime, I would probably put it in on my car too. But for the time being, I am quite happy with what I got!

I know, I know, I'm just impatient.... (just in case you hadn't noticed)

Though I spend more and more time at the track, I don't want more HP for the track. The ONLY place more HP at the track would help me is on the straightaways and my JCW does just fine. Since I upgraded from a Stage I JCW kit to a factory JCW, the car is a blast to drive. I guess I'm just being greedy thinking if it's a blast to drive now, what would happen with an extra 20-30 extra HP?

I am not bragging,
Yes, you are....

Just jokin'.... like I said before, I don't want more HP for the track, I want it for the street and even at that.... I don't want to drag race, I just like to have the extra umphhhh to play.
