H&R Sport Springs + 18in rims?

Anyone have H&R sport springs with 18in rims?
I have a 2005 Mini cabrio, and I don't want to deal with rubbing if at all possible. You think it will be a problem?

Here's the wheels and tires I'm looking at:
Wheels: 18x8 MOTEGI RACING SP10 Black Painted
Tires: 215/35R18 XL Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric
Blackwall

I'm not really a fan of those tires, but I have to get something with road hazard coverage.

Thanks for the help!

*I chose to put this in the Suspension thread due to the springs playing the major role of rubbing if it were an issue.

Hi Chandler!

What's the ET of those rims. They are somewhat wider than normal 18" wheels so ET should be high in order for you not to have rubbing problems. I have H&R's on and R105 with 15mm spacers, R105 has ET52, but is 7J wide. I think ET shouldn't be lower than 45 to fit properly. I think there are some programs that let you calculate sizes, just to be sure.

What is the ET?
Is that the offset? Sorry, I'm new to all of this.

Here's all the information I could dig up on those wheels.
Offset: +40mm
Backspacing: 6.06"
Bolt Pattern: 4-100
Rec. Tire Size:215/35-18
Weight: 19.0lbs.

Thanks for the response!

My guess is you will have rubbing in the rear.
I have 18x7 wheels setup with 38mm offset, JCW springs (not as short as the H&R springs), with 215/40 tires, and I have slight rubbing. Since your wheels are 8" wide verse my 7" wide wheels, yours are 12mm wider towards the inside and outside which would make the offset approximately comparable to mine if I had 28mm (40-12) offset. That would be 10mm more to the outside and even more rubbing. Your tires are 35 series verse my 40 series so the sidewall is a little shorter (so slightly smaller diameter tire) but I do not think enough to eliminate the rubbing potenial.

Could I get spacers to help with the rubbing issue?
Or would that just make it worse?

Spacers will make it worse because they will move the wheel/tire even closer to the outside where you will already have a rubbing issue. You might need wheels with more offset (higher number of millimeters) but with 8" wheels you also have to be careful that you do not have too much offset or you might rub on the inside (such as on the strut). I am not actually sure how your clearance will be on the inside. Before I added wheel spacers, my 18x7 ET52 wheels and 215/40 tires were close to rubbing on the inside (5mm or so of clearance). Your 18x8 ET40 wheels/tires should have about the same clearance on the inside (5mm or so) as my 18x7 ET52 wheels/tires. I think your issue will be at the outside rear.

You might want to contact some of the members (such as rally@stancedesign) who have posted in the 8" wide thread:

Just noticed last night that the outer surface is all that is matte black. The rest of the wheel is silver. Thought I'd bring this up because I've looked at this wheel several times and saw it in a pic here last night. I went back and looked at the photo and it looks deceiving with the white background.

This may be exactly what you want, but if you want an all black wheel, look again.
