After reading pages of crap...where are we on JCW tuning?

Okay, after reading all the crap lately, someone tell me where we are on JCW tuning. I've got 2400 miles on my new JCW... WHEN CAN I EXPECT SOMEONE TO COME UP WITH A JCW UPGRADED TUNE????

And more importantly, when/where can we get an OBDII upgradeable tune?

Thanks,

Mark

He's done one...posted initial results.

MotorMouth has also had his tuned, but just initially. He likes the results, in case you didn't see that part...

I can understand Orangecrush's annoyance. All upgrade discussions are so focused on the MCS, and the JCW is an afterthought.

If a tuner could simply upload a dyno chart of a JCW pre-tune, and post-tune, including the A/F ratios I would be much more likely to drive a long *** way to get a tune. But hearing facts for the MCS, and then being told that JCW increases would "likely" be a little less just doesn't satisfy me. Proof please!

A handheld unit would also be a godsend so that it could be reloaded.

While I appreciate the effort and work it goes into tuning these cars, I just keep reading and reading and reading..... nothing.

I haven't seen one before and after dyno map. The only car I've heard that was tuned was MotorMouths' mini but even at that, it was supposedly an "initial" tune.... I forget the reason why but it wasn't completely done. (ie. no boost gauge or something like that)

I would think after all this time, someone could produce a before and after dyno sheet.

Nevermind me, I'm just impatient. Surely after 3 model years of having the R56 out, I would have thought it would have been tuneable.

Actually, he responded today in another thread saying that he has done the JCW but he's waiting to be able to do it from a remote location.

As far as using an OBDII flash tool, I hadn't read anything about that yet.

popping in here to repeat my adventure so far.

Yes, my 09 JCW has been tuned using the new Genius and dimsport software (the same that Jan uses).

It was what I've been calling a 'blind tune' meaning that it was not dynoed, no AF readings have been done, and I don't have a boost gauge installed. The tuner didn't want to do any heavy tweaking without the use of A/F meters or boost gauges so he gave me a 'mild tune' where he changed the timing a bit and bumped the boost by 5% which should be about 1 lb on the JCW. I don't know (but doubt) if he did anything with the AF since he didn't have a way of knowing where it was or where it needed to go.

I don't think I had 300 miles on my jcw before I got the mild tune so it's hard for me to say how much it changed. I had not had a chance to get used to it stock. I do know that since the tune I do not turn on the sport button anymore (well very rarely) and I was a zealot about it before. I can't accelerate slowly/smoothly enough with it on now to keep the wife from getting on my case. It really is borderline too sensitive with the sport button now. The MINI was fast before the mild tune and it's still fast. My butt dyno isn't calibrated enough to know how much faster it is.

Once I get time to install the boost gauge which has been sitting on my backseat for almost two weeks I'll schedule some dyno time to get a full tune and YES - I will post dynos for the my jcw stock and tuned. It is very easy to change the maps and my stock map is stored in the genius.

I know it sucks waiting for people to post dynos. However, I am one of the few people who DOES post dynos - so trust me that I will be posting them the same day I get dynoed.

It's just that there is a lot going on in my life at the moment so that I have very little free time. Heck, I've pulled most of the mods out of my old S but haven't had time to put them into the JCW. I'm REALLY missing the stereo. The wife doesn't miss the coilovers.

not harsh. i actually thought they were more comfortable than the sports suspension. however the jcw currently has the stock standard suspension and I have to admit a smooth ride has a positive.
think about it - i just said 17" run flat tires felt smooth. I had 16" with the coilovers. that tells you how my ride was hehe.

I still plan on putting them on.

MM,

I was wondering if you got some dyno time. It would be nice to see what your local guy can do with the base tunes and a tweak or two.

Btw, I'm going to try out the Rev. software and a plex wireless sending unit for boost, water temp, etc.

Enjoy the long weekend, I hope your getting one.

Don

Rev for the iPhone?

I've heard that it actually works quite well for what it is. I'm thinkin' I'll pick it up when I'm bored with my scan gauge.

I have the Ipod Touch, no iphone until verizon starts selling it with Apple's blessing or I move to France and get an unlocked iphone.

Some of the apps for the iphone/itouch are pretty good. I use the touch more for email and facebook than as a music player.

I use an HTC touch HD. Best phone I've ever had. I've been into high tech phones for 3-4 years now. Gets kind of pricey spending 700 bucks for a phone but definitely worth the money.

The phone is so good, AT&T won't allow the Touch HD to use it's 3G capability in the US because it's known as the iphone killer. If they allowed owners to use it's 3G capability, they'd be no need for the iphone.

No offense to iphone owners, it is what it is.

Yes, I had heard the HTC was a great phone. Did you get it via AT&T or an independent?

I ordered my Plex Kiwi wifi and bought the full Rev app via the itunes store.

I will let you know what I think. I really only wanted it for two functions, water temp. and boost, so everything else is gravy.

Don,

Hey bud. No, I bought my phone from a European supplier. They weren't (not sure they are now) available in the US.

I like PC based programs. I do like all the cool apps that the iphone has but the turn offs like not being able to replace batteries, (without sending it in), not able to swap and/or upgrade memory sucks to me. The idea of not being able to "close" programs and merely minimizing them is ridiculous, IMO.

Let me know how you like the phone.

Mark

Cool I was just looking at the Kiwi and Rev. Let us know how they work. If everything works as claimed I will be getting it to.

Sorry nothing to really add to the main topic of the thread, but I thought I would chime in to your comment. I'm a 2nd gen touch user. To my understanding, if you want to completely close the program, you just have to hold the center button and after a few seconds, the program will close. Most just tap the button to minimize, but try doing it this way and I hear it saves some battery life.

I'll be sure to tell one of my employees. He tells me that he can't close them and other than killing the battery even faster, more importantly, it uses too much ram.

Thanks,

Mark

PS. In answer to my original post, we are somewhere... Jan has software and that's what I wanted to hear.

Did you get the tune yet? I'm still waiting to see a chart from someone.

Thanks,

I ran into a problem when I installed the boost gauge. The tach / speedo/ and air conditioner all died and were dead for the last 10 days or so (which REALLY sucked).

Luckily it turned out to only be a blown fuse but it was just fixed yesterday. Although I do now have a CEL that I'm taking in to the dealer on Friday for.

MM,

How did the CEL turn out. Was that with your base MINI configuration or with the tune?

What did you Service guys think?

The CEL disappeared by itself after about 10 starts. Everything seem sto be normal now. Now I just gotta decide what mods I wanna do since I got a pretty big scare with that last incident (not to mention I really caught he** from the wife).
