Month old black stripes have discolored

We took delivery of an 09 CR/B Cooper on 11-Apr-09 and had PPF installed on the 24th. The film guy is independent but the dealer let's him work in their detail shop. I washed the car for the first time about a week later and had pretty bad water spotting visible on the glass and black paint (it's been a while since I washed at home, the water's gotten harder). I used dilute vinegar to clear the spotting. The stripes look like they're spotted but on paint/glass the spots were faint outlines while on the stripes they look like faded gray areas. You can also see faint discolored spots under the film. I've tried vinegar, Hydro and Slick and the detail shop at the dealer used a couple of Griot's products. I wonder if this is just how black stripes look in the sun, if it is a lost cause or if there's some way to fix it.

This is a photo.

Have you tried Claying the Stripes?? Clay does a great job on Hard Water Stains. I've got to do it to my White Roof, I just noticed last weekend during bath time that the roof was spotted as well.

Good Luck!!

I never had much luck with claying my stripes but YMMV. Polishing with a light polish worked better for me. That said, I'm thinking about taking my stripes off - they're a bear to keep looking perfect.

yikes... that looks like some detergent or vinyl install solution (soap)
leftover stains. stripes should be solid black.

i suppose you can try a mild polish (ScratchX) to see if you can get a
slight layer off the top... and make sure to wax afterwards.

similar issue at the tint shops. they install tint but dont do a complete
wipe down on the window sills and seats/cargo area on the inside so
a lot of times left with soap solution stains.
