Please help! R56 owners!

Hello all,

I recently test drove an R56 JCW. The clutch pedal engaged almost completely back to its at rest position, really in the last few inches of travel.

I realize all new cars and clutches feel different, but this spoiled my test drive and really made it a challenge to drive smoothly at all.

My question to you....Is this normal??? Are you R56 owners finding this to be par for the course or did I catch a bad one????

Any experience you can pass on would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Yeah, I was taken aback at first when I got my 2008 S being used to a "lift the toe" clutch. I don't even think about it anymore, I have become 1 with the machine.

Every clutch is different, and I've seen variances within individual cars, too, when I've driven MINI loaners. It's true that you get used to it, but I've never been thrilled with the clutch and transmission. I consider it to be the one real weak point with the MINI. And yes, I've driven sticks before. In fact, I don't think there's been a time in the last 40 years when I didn't have at least one manual.

There is one hint I can pass on--you might find it easier to get a smooth shift with the sport button on. Not everyone has noticed this, but I'm not the first to mention it.
