I posted this over in the interior/exterior forum a while ago and now it's official...

I'm organizing a group buy for white, static-cling sunroof decals for those of us who want to hide our black sunroofs. These will be solid white, not the perforated kind you can see through (those were too expensive). These decals will be removable, so you can change between it and a flag decal if you choose. Properly applied, they will NOT fly off your sunroof at highway speeds. This is a 15-20 minute DIY install!

The price for each decal will be $75 plus $5 shipping within the US (to cover postage and purchase of mailing tubes). This is higher than I had hoped for, but still about HALF the price of a permanent decal. I'm not making any money out of this, I'm simply passing the cost of the decal and the shipping on to you. If you are in NJ/NY/PA and attend any of the PhillyMINI group events, I will be happy to deliver yours at one of the events, saving you the shipping cost.

This buy will be open through Saturday, November 15th. I will place the order on the following Monday. If I do not have your payment by the 15th you are out of luck. I will NOT be ordering any extras. I can accept Paypal payments at robyn@millpondminis.com. If you wish to pay by check or money order, please PM me and I will send you my mailing address.

We need a minimum of 4 decals in order for this to happen. If I don't have 4 orders by the 15th, I will refund any money that has been sent to me.

Will they hold up at highway speeds?

Properly installed, the static cling decals are fine at highway speeds. I have a static cling US flag that has been on for about 3 weeks. I've had it on the highway at speeds up to 90mph and not so much as an edge or corner has peeled up.

Hey all you White w/Sunroof folk out there! This is a great idea, and it's a good thing Robyn has done her homework on this! I'm in, and we need a few more, so pony up and getchur static clingie thingie to whiten your roof. We might start a trend, who knows?

Just to reassure everyone, I happened to do about 4 hours of highway driving this weekend. My current static cling flag still hasn't budged one bit. I wish I could say the same for the trim along the top of my windshield, which decided to detach itself about halfway home from my Rt. 125 pre-run on Saturday.

Hi girl,
Need to ask a question or two if you don’t mind. Does this install require any trimming or anything like that? Can it just be installed and that’s it. If that’s the case it sounds like every thing will have have to be right on the mark. Is this a hard install with trimming or can just the average person can do it?
Charles

P.S. I’m not trying to be a pain in the butt.

Charles,

There will be no trimming involved! The decals should end up being just slightly smaller than the glass on sunroof (I'm talking 1/8" at the most). It will be a piece of cake to install! I put my US flag decal on in about 15 minutes and that was only slightly more difficult because I had to make sure the stripes lined up on the two pieces. The flag decal is also just slightly smaller than the sunroof glass, but as you can see in the picture it still looks good.

The only static cling sunroof decals that I know of that are commercially available are the US flag and the Union Jack. I know URL=http://www.cooperaccessories.com]Cooper Accessories[/URL] carries both of them. There may be other vendors. I don't know.

I'm strictly organizing a one time group buy for those of us who want a white decal to make our sunroofs blend in with our white roofs a bit more.

Just a reminder... 23 days to go on this.

The guy told me yesterday that he will be able to have everything done within a week (probably less) after I place the order.

Have you washed your car with the static cling on by chance?

I want to upgrade next year from magnets for all my race required decals, and I'm wondering if static cling would survive washing. It'd be a pain to have to remove them all each time I wash.

I have washed my car numerous times with the static cling decal on and it hasn't budged. I'm careful when I wash the sunroof not to scrub too hard near the edges of course, but it's been great. I'm really happy with how well it is attached.

Scoutd, welcome to the decal club! $80 is the total price for the decal and shipping. With any luck we should all have our new decals before Thanksgiving!

Robyn -

I'm working on a couple in Omaha who just ordered a MCS, DS & W. He's a Mini pal of mine from the old days here in San Diego, and his wife is getting the S fully loaded. They are interested in the decal, so hopefully they'll give you a holler. Thanks, again -
