Will the "Birmingham News" be there to write an article?

We hope so! We're inviting all the media to attend. We've received confirmation from ABC 33/40 and the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce so far.

Hope to see you there!

Can't promise I can make it as I will have to take off work but I think I may try to if we are not too busy. I will make a post over at CooperNation about this too

I don't know who you have contacted at the B'ham News but Ginny MacDonald (the Driver's Side lady) sent a photog out to the Tom Williams sit-in we did a few years ago after I emailed her & told her what we were doing. We didn't make the paper but the photog did show up & take pics. Also Chris Tutor came to one of our events last year. He writes for the al.com blog

Cool beans! Looks like I can do this thing! My hubby works right around the corner too. I'll grab lunch with him and come right over.

Banners were up the other day in the DT lane, now they're open and have a Blue S to show off.

Is this a Birmingham only event? I was surprised BBVA Compass hadn't started threads in other clubs. Don't suppose they're going to grace Birmingham with 5 car giveaway? (I left compass years ago, but if the odds are good enough- how's it work?)

MINI Cooper Sweepstakes

Hey! We're actually going to be having MINI events throughout our footprint through the end of May. We have five MINI's that will be given away in the sweepstakes and they are touring our branches to help promote the sweepstakes. If you become a client you can enter numerous ways. Some examples are: open a consumer checking receive 20 entries, sign up for onlinebill pay receive 5 entries, complete signature (non-PIN) transactions on your debit card and receive 5 entries per transaction. All the sweepstakes details are found at www.compassbank.com. It's easy to enter and we would appreciate your business!

hmmm I think I will not mince words. I in no way speak for the MINI community but...

I would rather slice myself up with razor blades & roll around in Tabasco sauce than bank at Compass. If Compass were the last bank on earth, Mason jars would become my preferred method if banking.

My mother wrote me a birthday check on her Compass account. I bank at Regions. I wanted to blow the money on nothing sensible for myself so I went by Compass to cash the check. They wanted a $7.50 check cashing fee to give me the money because I do not bank with them. That's utter & total BULLSH!T. To me this ultimately means that Compass bank does not honor their customer's checks without adding in a bit of extortion to sweeten the deal for themselves. Maybe Compass' next business venture will include opening up some "Payday Loan" sharking shops on Hwy 280.

I warn you Compass & any other bank trying to pull this crap, come Monday morning my FDIC, Federal Legislative, Internet badmouthing campaign if Compass bank goes into full force. I (& I do belive I speak for other consumers in this instance) am sick to death of you taking advantage of me with your legalized extortion methods. I am mad as hell & I am not going to take it anymore!!!!

I did not cash the check. Compass bank can kiss my MINI-driving azz.

(this rant is not directed at the OP)

I have written my U.S. Senators, Representative, the FDIC, & the BBB. I have also left some nice replies at a few dozen complaint websites. It's time for some banking reform & it won't get done unless we, as consumers act to do something to force the banking industry to stop their commonplace practices of extortion.

Ponder this... If someone writes you a check for $5 on their Compass Bank account, you owe Compass $2.50...

That's what you get when European banks buy up American banks. Stick it to the Americans who saved your A?? from speaking German.

I know & I know most all banks are doing it now but that kind of double dipping just still isn't right to me. If there was some other way to pay bills besides driving all over town & hand delivering cash I swear I would take my money out of any financial institutions & bury it in mason jars in my back yard.

.... & yeah Buffalo wings do taste like chicken, it's not just you...

I agree with you T. Some time ago, I sold a car and took a check, drawn on Compass Bank (before the buyout).
I handed the $2500 check to the Compass teller who prompty hande me a twenty and a five. I said "WHOA!, look at that check again."
He then said that it would be $3 to cash the check.
I then asked why, it wasn't going to cost me $3 a second ago?
HE said "Sorry, it's the rules"
I took my $2497 and forever will hate those b@st@rds!

I love my credit union!
Screw the mega-banks!

bill, which credit union are you at? I am sure these fees have been going on since at least 2001 when financial institutions were handed the keys to the castle to legally do what they want to us. I had not tried to actually cash a check in person at the bank it was drawn for many, many years until this event happened. I have been with Region's Bank for almost 30 years but have learned that they too charge a check-cashing fee. I would like to find a bank/credit union to move my account to that doesn't double dip & rip off both account holders & check recipients.

I bank with APCO (Alabama Power Co Employees). My mom worked there for 20 something years and family was allowed to join.

I am pretty certain that Alabama Telco CU will allow any resident of Jefferson or Shelby (and maybe other counties) county to join.
