Bike carrier

Is there a strap on bike rack the will work with the MINI. I tried the one I had used on my TSX and there is not enough room for the hooks to fit between the roof and the lid of the hatch back. It look like a little dremel to the spoiler might solve the problem but I would not want to try that unless I knew it would work.

Saris Bones 2 or 3. There are threads about it you can search for. I have a Bones 2 that I bought used from another MINI owner in my club. I haven't wanted to transport my bike so haven't tried using it, but it does fit.

One thing to be careful with, is that with these types of racks, the force of the bike is often transfered to the lower hatch door, just above the bumper. On our old GM wagon it caused an small indentation in the door.

If you're hauling DH bikes the stress will be a lot more than road bikes. Not to say that the Saris rack is not good, I'm just commenting from my own experience with similar style rack.

The Saris User's manual states that the bottom legs should be resting on the bumber, not on the bottom of the hatch door.

I don't own a Saris rack yet, so I don't know how it fits on the MINI exactly. Maybe someone could confirm the position of the Saris rack?

you can put it on either way * on the hatch door, or on the bumper, but i like it better on the hatch door cuz then it gets into contact with the rearwiper.
