Has anyone been able to run at a track with any mods?I am curious to see how much time would be cut off from basic mods. I would run at the track but due to full-time work and school, its nearly impossible to make time to go out of town to get to a track. Thanks.

 

I know you asked for a time with mods, but a baseline might help. I ran once, my best time was a 14.9. I dont really remember conditions, aside from it being rather warm (70s) somewhere in indiana, so lower altitude. All i have on my car are lighter wheels, stickier tires, and a limited slip differential. Id say thats a decent baseline. Off the top of my head i cant remember factory claims. Im intrigued to see other's times.

i went 14.97 at 93 my fastest ever, alta intake and 225/45/17 kumho mx....in other words big stickies and an intake and ran a 14.97

it was about 60 deg here in fl that night

The best ive managed to get was recorded on my iphone (dynolicious) and not done on a test track, it was done on a private road by me, which is visibly flat (not tested) and around 1.5 miles long and perfectly straight, so its ideal for this sort of thing, although some may complain that my results are not tested and thus irrelevant....

1/4mile in 14.48 @ 108mph

Mods listed in my signature. This was with a pretty good start, and it took me a while to perfect my starting rpms etc. Could do better with newer tyres as mine are pretty shot.

 

Road & Track did a comparison/ review of 4 in car units including the iPhone Dynolicious application. The iphone was usually in the middle of the range,
not high or low. Very cool application.

 

yeah dynolicious is pretty accurate if you calibrate it right before the run...temperature changes and altitude changes can affect the calibration drastically. but i have tested dynolicious at the drag strip and its almost dead on every time. within a tenth i would say is accurate for a phone lol.

the only problem i have evey had with the program is in my subie it shakes really bad when it idles due to solid engine/tranny mounts and it wont ever let me start the run so i have to shut the car off them hit go and restart the car and by that time its 6 seconds by the time im ready to go. so im warning the people that have solid mounts cause you will only be able to get trap speed and not 1/4 mile time.

back on topic 14.48 @ 108mph seems like a really high trap speed for running a 14.48 i would be interested to see the 60' on that run

 

I think they have just released an update mate which supposedly fixes that!
It said something about adjusted vibration sensitivity in the update... I havent had a run with it since then. I'll go and get those results, hang fire

 

there is no adjustment for sensitivity when you are waiting for the light to go from yellow to green, but there is the ability to set how many g's you must pull for it to start the run

 

in the real world track you would not be trapping @ 108, more along the lines of high 90's. Trapping @ 108 means you should be hitting mid to low 13's.. not that it makes a difference

i installed the m7 intercooler last night, i want to see if there is any difference at the track, but i highly doubt i will go faster than 14.9

California Speedway Dragstrip 81 degrees first time 78 degrees second time

I did have 2 runs which I ran 16 second passes @ 81 MPH with the car the first time with a good 2.1 60 foot because these cars need to be warmed up just right or the ECU retards boost and timing and you lose to a 16 second stock corolla. Boy does that suck. I was worried about idling to long and creating heat soak but I guess I did not get water and oil temp up to minimum levels. Just a heads up to save a fellow mini owner possible embarrasment

 

I don't know, I think a Mini with enough power to run a 108 could easily spend enough time spinning it's wheels at the beginning of the run to push it over 14 seconds.

 

97 mph is a very respectable trap from a car that supposdily only makes 170 hp from the factory.

 

My car now is crank rated at 195 HP in comparo to stock 172. The mods really helped the car come alive on top thus the almost 5 MPH trap increase over stock.

My motor mods cost me about 2300 installed not sure if 3.5 tenths and 5 MPH is worth it but in a Mini I think it is, In cars like a Mustang gt or EVO 2300 dollars would get you over 1 second and 10MPH. I myself spent 1000 dollars on an intake and catback before I switched to the JCW Tuning Kit and those parts did not make my car a full tenth faster they were a waist.

Overall, I think this is as well as a Cooper S can perform without comprimising long term reliablity or driveablity. I will now leave my car alone and start saving for the next gen Bi Turbo Cooper S hinted about on Motoring File.

 

There is a Mini in the latest issue of MC2 that runs the 1/4 mile in 10.36. The car has the stock head, stock cam shaft, etc.... the mods were mostly a HUGE turbo HUGE intake tubing, complete exhaust, ECU, NOS, and a few other goodies. It dyno'd at over 600hp. It's a pretty sick machine, and all from a little 1.6 liter 4 cyclinder MINI. I think his goal is to get it into the 9's for the 1/4 mile. I let me brother in law borrow the magazine so I can't look up all the facts and details right now.

 

I can not remember the trap speed but I tried my stock MCS with JCW engine tuning kit out at the track. With the standard JCW airbox on I was consistently getting 14.6, with my open intake I was getting 14.5 easily (about 9 runs, of that 6 were in the 14.5-14.6 range. The night was a warm night with a track temp of about 31 degrees C (87 degrees F). On street tyres (Toyo Proxes 4, approx 25 PSI in the front). The only thing I was doing between runs is spraying the IC to cool it. The fun bit was embarrassing some V8's.

Getting a front wheel drive off the line is murder. As for trap speed, my old V8 used to do a 13.6 @ 105mph with a 2.1 60" so I guess 108mph is a bit too fast for a highish 14, either that or a lot of wheel spin.
