iPod/connector stolen!

Hi all-

Unfortunately I forgot to lock my car last night and of course someone stole my ipod and the connector wire. I have the ipod/bluetooth connection (not through the glove box) for a 2008. Anyone know where I can purchase another connector? So pissed off at myself (and of course whoever stole it). They also hit up my boyfriend's car which he can't lock b/c the locks are broken (he just forgot to grab his ipod). Ugh.

Sorry to here about that! Made off with an iPod and a cord. Could have been worse... could have stolen the cars too. Anyway... try the Apple Store for that cable. (If you can't find it on there, give 'em a call. I know they have them.) You might also call your dealer and see if they one in stock.

Your Y cable got stolen, right?

If so, I have an extra I'd be willing to give you if you cover postage. PM me.

This cable is ONLY available from the dealer. RadioShack won't have it.

Radio Shack has them the cheapest and they do work. I use one in my Mini and in the wife's X3. I guess I'm just imagining I bought them there and they work.

You're thinking of the regular AUX cables. Besides, you can get those for less than a dollar online at places like monoprice.

I think what's been stolen is the Y-cable that actually hooks up to the iPod dock connector and has the AUX/USB ports on the other end.

The factory one has a pin plug and USB plug on the end that plugs into the car, then a USB for your Ipod. I would be pretty sure you would have to buy that one at a dealer. I'm sure a regular auxillary port cable works but undoubtedly you would not get the same functionality from the head unit. I'm also guessing the dealer price is outrageous.

Right, the cable that got stolen was the Y cable that came as the ipod/bluetooth connector. Like described above, it had a pin plug and a USB plug on one end and ipod usb on the other (hence the Y moniker).

The shitty thing is that I think it was my neighbors that did it. So mad

Can they use a stolen iPod? I would think when they try to put it on their computer and try to register it Apple could flag it. Check out Apple's site and see if there is anything they can do. Did you report it to the police? If not, report it and provide them with the serial numbers.

Well, I checked Apple's site regarding stolen iPod's and here's what they have:

Summary

How to report lost or stolen Apple product?

Apple does not have a formal flagging process for reporting stolen property. If you have lost or found an Apple product, please contact your local law enforcement agency to report it.

That sucks.

yeah, I didn't register the ipod w/ apple anyway so I didn't think they would be of any help. If the try to play the music on itunes, they would need my password for the songs I purchased from itunes but most of the music is from cds so that's not much help anyway. I was just thinking, with 10,000 songs, my ipod was worth $10K if you go by itunes song pricing.

One of the MINI's I delivered a few months back was missing the cable. The cost over our parts counter was $60 or something like that.

I'd float nsarchett a few bucks for shipping, and a really nice thank you card, and get his extra Y cable. As the MA just stated, it's expensive to replace.

+ 1.

Yeah, they're pricey $60 - $80. And if you can't just go pick it up anyway, might as well get for free from a very nice fellow. Otherwise you'll have to pick it up from the dealer (or maybe Apple).

My iPod and cable were stolen out of my car recently (they ransacked every unlocked car on the block). No, Apple doesn't have a feature to shut down the iPod. I had high hopes of at least screwing the thief.

The upside of this is that the iPod was taken out of my RAV4 where I had it in the console. The thief didn't find my GPS in the Mini because it was in the hidden compartment. Guess where I keep my new iPod and GPS whenever I get out of the car. (No longer have the RAV4)

Do you have a part number for that cable? I went to Moritz Mini in Arlington TX and the parts guy could not find just the Y cable only the whole iPod interface.

Y Cable Part#

61 12 0 440 796

Retail $67.00

Should be able to get 10-20% off of that at most dealers.

good luck!

If you call my dealership and mention my name it couldnt hurt Ask for Larry @ my parts dept 914-761-7099. Though the $$ you save on a possible discount would be null if you have to pay for shipping to TX. see if your local guys can help you out.
