C.A.R.B Legal Intake

I'm looking for a list of C.A.R.B 50 state legal intakes for the R53 MCS.

I've tried searching, but couldn't find any recent threads

Which intakes are 50 state C.A.R.B legal? I live in California and since my MCS is my daily. I'd rather have a C.A.R.B legal intake, so the police don't have a cow.. LOL

I think that the K&N or the JCW intakes are your only options.

I know the K&N is ...doesn't Mean others couldn't ...but that cost $$$ with carb.

On a recient sale of a MINI in CA evenn the local "good guy " asked about my K&N ...(wanted to see the CARB sticker approval )

I posted a question a while back about smog and things are only getting stricter all the time.

I am an avid Motorcycle off roader (yes 2 strokes ) this is NOT going to get easier ...we all will need to look at the mods or you ,may be in a difficult spot.

I love playing ...(2 stroke street legal . big monster mods, big monsters .) but this is serious ...look at why Porsche just bought "back" VW

My latest project is a jusy bairly smog exempt toy. (because of year)
I have it smogged as it is a 1975 but dont need the bianual in CA ...now when I sell it ...who knows???

Apparently AFE has a CARB legal intake. Here's the thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-b-exempt.html

Thanks for the input guys.

Does the K&N provide good peak and power under the curve?

I never owned Dinan, it seems that Dinan products are overpriced.

The best bet is probably a JCW intake with an aftermarket filter: http://www.mini-madness.com/index.as...ROD&ProdID=272

The intakes alone, no matter C.A.R.B. approved or not, are not going to be giving you that noticeable of a difference so you might as well go for what you prefer looks or price wise. I think the Dinan and JCW would most likely offer very similar results power wise.

Or a K&N panel filter with an opened up lower airbox.

Got to get some pics of this...

People tend to say that the Dinan is one of the quieter ones, but that is when compared to something like the Alta which is general considered one of the loudest.

Find someone who owns one though for further info.

Slight whining noise from the SC with the Dinan, but yes..... It's on the quieter side of the intakes available.

If you're interested in the Dinan, I think they're on sale for $180 (seems inexpensive to me) on the Dinan website. I was going to go with a Dinan intake, but decided to use the Alta CAI instead.

$180.. that's pretty cheap..

foolish of me not to look on the Dinan website.

I was basing my "expensive" Dinan remark on when I was in the market for an E46 M3 and I was checking out the product prices on Dinan's website.

I was like WTF, $10,000 for 100hp!!!??? I could get an additional 100whp in my EVO for less than $2,000 bucks!

The K&N is only CARB legal for 02-04 so it is not an option for you.

I just bought a Dinan, its got a little bit of supercharger whine. It is $180 but they also have a 15% rebate which I believe is still going on. Best of all it comes with a C.A.R.B. sticker.

The list is short: JCW, K&N, Dinan. That is all I am aware of.

I thought CARB only applied to CA and not all 50 states or have things changed in the last 4 years that I have lived in Europe?

Yes CARB stands for California Air Resources Board. Usually if it meets the CARB standard, then it is 50 state legal, but that depends on local laws too.

Got it.... That is what I figured but the initial question kind of threw me off a bit.
