EUROFEST 2003 - Oct 17 - 19 Greer, SC
Okay now, the blood pressure and pulse has virtually returned to normal after the Lowe's school. Now it's time for our next endeavor, Eurofest! Only about 3 weeks to go. Let's start hearing some plans and details. Some of this will best be answered by people who attended last year.
Dinner was mentioned for Friday night. When and where? Don't know if I can get down there in time, but it'd be nice for to know for planning purposes. Any after dinner plans that evening?
Saturday's pretty full in the day between the show and autocross. Anyone have suggestions for Sat. evening? Having never been there I have no idea what the available options are.
Speaking of the show, if you're registered in it, will you have to stick around the car, or is wandering possible? Also, are chairs, umbrella's, or any other comforts recommended?
For those that went last year, was Sunday run the same with the end of the rally and beginning of the autocross overlapping? If so, was it possible to do both?
And lastly...for the moment...at the Charlotte school the Wingate made an offer to store luggage for us to be picked up at the end of the day. Will the Wingate here do the same? I'd like to run the autocross Sunday, but don't fancy leaving all my stuff laying in a pile out in the open while I do.
Details, details, got to have details!!
Here's a link for more details: http://www.euroautofestival.com/

I didn't go to last year's Euro but, here's some reccommendations, least what I use at Autocrosses....
Suntan lotion
a chair of somesort
raincoat/umbrella (you never know) + the umbrella can be used to block the sun, if you forgot the lotion
a good tire gauge
portable air compressor
small cooler w/water gatorade coke etc
few snacks.
a towel
those are just a few things I take in addition to my tire changing stuff & other autocross gear.
You don't really have to worry about your stuff sitting out in a pile on Sunday. Everyone else there will be doing the same thing. I've haven't had anything taken all year.
So having said all that... COME OUT ON SUNDAY!! & Drive you OWN MINI. The autocross on Saturday is in a Z4
South Carolina Region SCCA is co-hosting this event
Come out!! You WON't be dissapointed

Any one interested in joining in, let me know, I'd love to have a driveway full of MINIs!!

Trainman,
Great, so come out on Sunday only like me! I'll be at Petit le Mans for Saturday, but I'll be racing on Sunday for sure!!
See you all there - and please don't beat me by that much, my heavy MCS with all the extra packages and no engine mods yet won't rank that high... which will mean it will still outrank all the Honda's that plan on attending, regardless! Haha.... Its good not having a Honda anymore!!!

For all you MINIacs that are going to the Eurofest/SCR-SCCA Autocross on Sunday, Please Please register online @ SCR-SCCA.COM. It will make life so much easier for me (timing & scoring) and the Registration people... Plus you shouldn't have to wait in a long line with those who didn't register online. Online registration is free, you can pay at the site. You do have to sign up to the SCR site, which is free too.
Stock MINI Coopers are in H-Stock (HS)
Stock MINI Cooper S's are in G-Stock (GS)
If you've modded anything and I do mean anything... on your car email me @ david@scr-scca.comand I'll help you with classification so you can register. If you've never run in an autocross, we'll put you in the novice grouping of you particular class, or you can run with me
Either way, it's a blast, and quite addicting. If you don't believe me, just ask me.
For those who are going to be there on Saturday, we (SCR-SCCA) are also hosting an autocross in the new(ish) BMW Z4. Which everyone can drive. Half will be automatics, and half will be manual. SO NO EXCUSES. The reg info is over at the Eurofest site I think.
Hope to see A TON of MINIs there!!!!

Greetings,
Sorry for the delay in getting this info out but unfortunately work is necessary to allow me to continue to play with the MINI and the great group of friends the MINI makes. Can’t wait until I win the Lottery and can play all day long.
The gang at m2c2 has been resting after a busy last few months, but we’re gearing up for an enjoyable Fall Season of Motoring. Our beloved President, mininc, has been very busy with the duties involved in his new job (the one that pays) and spends most of his time on the road far from Internet access. He has asked me to pick up some of the slack and put out the info about our plans for the Euro 2003 Autofest Euro Autofest event scheduled for later this month.
The event starts on Friday the 16th around 9:30 with factory tours and meet and greet parties. We are planning on meeting at the Wingate at 2:00 PM for the start of a “gentle ride” through the hills of SC/NC finishing back in Greenville in the Main Street area for dinner at 6:00. The Main Street area in a quaint, tree lined section of town providing ample (so I’m told) parking and numerous places to grab a quick bit or enjoy a full blown meal, with indoor or outdoor seating. With the limited time left to plan a large gathering it was thought best to be causal about the night.
The show portion starts on Saturday at 8:00 with awards being presented around 4:00 and much to do in-between.
Mininc has set up a discount rate at the Wingate Inn in Greenville. As of tonight (9 Oct 03) they have about 10 rooms left at the $59 rate but it looks like extending that number won’t be a problem. Just mention the MINI Event. They will be providing the water and buckets (bring your own soap, towel etc) for anyone wishing to wash up prior to show day. If enough people express interest he also has an individual that has a rolling detail shop that can be called out to detail the cars for about $20 each (please contact Mininc direct for additional info).
Hope to see everyone there!

hahaha, you KNOW the guy from DC (ME!) had to come in and make a post after these two comments.... wow, yeah, my parents were right - i am learning a LOT in the south!!
Anyways, I'll see you guys on Sunday - if you all are going. Are you going to the autocross or the rally on Sunday? I didn't hear anything about Sunday, since you were just talking about the show portion on Saturday that I will unfortunately be missing due to Petit le Mans... Let me [rather, us] know! Thanks guys.

Since y'all are staying at the Wingate, be sure to stop by Joe's Crab Shack and visit Mrs. Trainman..
Good luck on parking on Main St. Greenville, however there are several parking lots and garages in the area. There's even one that's free on weekends... I'll try and get out to the Wingate to visit before y'all leave at 2:00, but have too much going on to motor thru the mountains..

I'd like to get into both the rally and the auto-x, if possible. VmpyrDavid is looking into the possibility. There seems to be a slight overlap in the end of one and the beginning of the other. If it ends up that I've got to choose between them, I'll probably opt out for the rally. Just doing it actually fits my scheduling better as I've still got to put a couple hours in the store when I get home that evening/night. I'll just have to bite the bullet and wait until the Feb M2C2 school to abuse my car again.

Moorlockx,
From what I know, you cannot do both. The rally starts at 9AM and goes til 12Noon. The autocross pre-registers everyone starting at 10AM, and actually starts at 11AM.
VmpyrDavid,
My driving partner with an Acura RSX has instructed me to hold out on doing the online registration if rain might be a factor. Hopefully it won't, but DO count me / us in if you need to do so for timing and scoring. PM me if you require any additional information from me / us. I apologize for the inconvenience, but it does make more sense doing it the way that she has advised - go figure, a woman giving sensible advice to a guy!

Thanks for the info. That's a shame though. Oh well......guess we'll have to settle on the rally and just be spectators for the auto-x this time around.
Smokey- going to have to miss the "gentle drive"
set for Friday, but we'll meet up with you for dinner in Greenville. My part-timer can't get in the store any earlier so we'll be in the area around 5pm.

Hey Vamp,
We are planning on starting at the Wingate at 2:00, heading up to Greer to head into the mountains.
Route will be on the back roads (mostly) and take us into Tyron and then up towards Lake Adger, back towards Saluda on a road that challenges the Dragon, then old 25 to 25 and back into Greenville.
We'll be on the FRS radios on channel 7 and tone of 0
Hope to see you there.

Have to agree with you there!
Although the crowd was smaller this year, I'm thinking we had more MINIs this year then last, but missed those that couldn't make it (FL & VA groups)
Good seeing you again Moorlockx

Hey thanks to the MINIacs that came out to the SCAC Autocross last Sunday!
We had over 160 cars!!! That's close to a SE Divisional size Autocross!!
I definatly had a blast, even though we had some issues up in Timing and Scoring... I could have shot my self in the foot though for hitting that ONE cone on my first run, which was my best time, minus the cone. Went from taking First place to Fourth. Oh well, I'll get'um in Florence in November.

There was quite a crowd there Sunday. Watched a few of your runs Vmpyr. You handled the track better than a lot of the others out there!
That first sharp left going into the lower parking lot seemed to be a major trouble spot. Wish I could have joined in the fun.
BTW...what was the winning time for Sunday?

Wish I'd known you were there, Moorlockx! I was there for about an hour, watched VmpyrDavid's and Fastlane's first runs, then had to leave..
Sorry about the cone, VampyrDavid, it sure looked like a great run from the sidelines!
Anyone know how FastLane did?

Thanks for the help Vmprdave. I ended up doing the Z4 on Saturday. I really want to run my Mini. What a rush. It looks like a lot work to put on the event. It s nice that you do it. I tried to find you on Saturday but you guys were busy setting up. I was in the 1st group of z4's my fastest time was 19.08. Maybe not the fastest but for the 1st time larger than a go cart Im pleased. Hope to see you at a future event. Thanks for the help tot he scr-scca site.
