Candler/Brevard MINI Rally
Candler/Brevard MINI Rally
CANCELED DUE TO SNOW/RAIN
We will meet up in Candler at the Home Depot up on the hill January the 18th, I believe this is EXIT-44 from I-40. If you're traveling westbound, after you exit make a right onto Patton Ave. Make another right at the McDonalds, and Home Depot is up on the hill.
Please be here between 10:30-11:00am. We will leave shortly after.
From here we will head into Candler on US-19/23/Patton Ave. Then will proceed onto US-276 up and over the BRP to Brevard. And then ending up taking US-64 to S Rugby and Butler Bridge into Fletcher and stop for a late lunch. I found a good burger/hot dog/chicken joint called French Friz, very good southern style.
All in all, the drive should be around 1.75hrs. It is curvy going up and coming down from the parkway, so plan accordingly.
Now if it does rain or snow, I'll cancel the run; it's not safe in these conditions. We can still do the lunch.
Lemme know if you guys are interested!

February may be better but the bottom line is not everyone can get off or have free time together. So just figure out what works for you and post it. The sooner you post the more ways people find a way to do them. Just my suggestion and I am unamous in that!
plan accordingly he says....
What he means is if you bring your dog make sure they are properly belted down before you take them on a winding road...
Hmmm now who would that dog owner be????

As far as that date...it all depends on Bobs test in Knoxville and whether we come back Saturday or Sunday. Will let you know.

Just a heads up, I tried a dry run yesterday and found out two things. 1) 151 isn't for amateurs, very tight and I lost it around one curve. 2) The BRP is closed until further notice.
So, I will wait and see if the parkway will re-open, if it doesn't, we can take 276 the whole way, it will just be a longer run.
I'll go again today on 276 and see what I can find.
I'm open to suggestions. We can always put this off till warmer weather...

Did find an alt route. If we start a little further in Canton, we can take NC-110 to Woodrow and then hop on US-276 to take us up and over the BRP, through the Cradle of Forestry, and into Brevard. From there we could get onto US-64 and then use Butler Bridge to head to Fletcher. We can either eat in Brevard or in Fletcher. I'll look for something today. Also for some reason, Google says it to be run in less time than the other.... Well see.
