Poor radio sound from CD?

Hey!
I noticed recently that My radio has a great sound when it comes from the Radio. Bass and everything... but when I put a CD in,.. it sounds like a Radio on sale at $19.99. Almost no bass!! I have the bass setting all the way up.. and Treble at the midle.. and there is a BIG difference from the radio to the CD. Anyone noticed this?! Is there a way to do something about is besides installing a sub in the back! (You know, it's so spacious! lol!)
Maybe I should verrify with my dealer?
Thanks for all the comments!
Have a nice day!

Oh.. and it's a 2008 cooper with the factory normal radio..

Not unheard of. Different compression and recording characteristics can do that. Unfortunately, Mini's 2nd generation radios, standard or upgrade, leave much to be desired. I have noticed a wide variance in sound quality even between CD's. For example, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Jupiter and Mars sounds fantastic, but the Stones Shine a Light sounds like crap (and I am not referring to the style of music).

Also be aware that you get to select different 'default' tone, fade, balance and volumes for each audio source (RadioTuner, CD & Aux) and again for each Key/Fob.

See the seven-fold "Boost~CD" card that should be with your Owners Manual package for settings.

Not in mine. One tone setting (balance, fader, treble, bass) for all audio sources.

Easiest with that Boost/CD card looking at "Settings" page, but; (from memory):

Start with the button with the misic 'staff' and then the row of buttons are 'hot keys' for the selections above.

The rotary **** will scroll off the right end to see all selections, then after pressing the respective 'hot key'
you can use the rotary **** to increase/decrease that selection, press the rotary **** to enter the value.

Source selection is the same, but beginning with a different button...

Settings (and preselected station favorites) are stored for the key/fob in use.

[S] is the selection that is confusing, is it towords the --- -] or the --- +] that will increase the speed/volume effect?

Doubt that "settings" would be any different from HiFi, but for non-HiFi;
there is a huge Thread in Audio/Nav Board about improving sound by swapping front/rear channels on non HiFi units.

When it's on; I usually have XM-Radio fed through Aux Jack, or NPR on FM, tried a few 'factory made' CD's just to see that it worked,
never saw an MP3 CD, but sound quality has been excellent.

I have the hi-fi and the CDs sound much, much better than either the radio or my XM receiver.
