Tach Computer Screen Going Nutty!
Tach Computer Screen Going Nutty!
Ok, I searched for a while in the forums, but couldn't find anything that really helped me. I own an 02 MCS. Recently, the digital screen on the tachometer has been going haywire. Meaning, it switches from the temp, to the speed, to the ave. speed, etc. However, I don't have the onboard computer installed (no extra button on the turning signal stick) on my MINI. Also, when it does start going all nutty, most of the screenshots don't make any sense. IE, random digital marks, and no intelligable characters. What the phell is going on with my MINI?
Just a guess
but the display on the tach doesn't really have any pins that attach it onto the board. The contacts are done via a conductive foam that touches the conductive pads on the tach circuit board. Either these are moving around (hinted at by the screwy display), or the electronics in the tach itself is starting to go screwy.
The On board computer is really in each car. What isn't in each car is the buttons to use it and the programming to turn it on.
Where are you based? I have a couple tachs I use for marketing for my company. I'm in California south of SF.... Anyway, these are all just guesses, I haven't herd of this one before.
