Anybody know how to silence the GONG chim? You can adjust the volume but not shut it off..This is driving me crazy...anyone??

 

Put on your seatbelt... then it usually goes off

 

I'd like to be able to kill the chime when I put something in the front seat, like a messenger bag with my laptop in it. Yes, i know that I could put my seatbelt on the bag, but I don't want to. I'm not sure how many cycles the chime goes through before it finally silences because I move my bag to the floor or just put it there to start with....but that can be a pain, too.

You can lower the volume in the Audio menu, but getting rid of it is a job for the Modifications: Electrical subforum.

 

This killed me- the first couple of times it happened. It kept thinking I had an unbuckled carseat in the passenger seat and was "helping" me, by notifying me that it was turning off the airbag to prevent my non-existent infant's death. Apparently there's some way to turn off the sensor, which trips at ~35 lbs., but I haven't found it yet.

 

I wish I could lower the volume of the turn indicator...

 

Its trying to inform you of something. Find out what it is and correct it. Then it will silence.

The gong is Clown's clown horn. the response it usually gets out of me is a verbal "STFU I know, its icy out... what do you want me to do, take a hair dryer to the world" or "Yes good morning.... Ok enough... yes I know the key is in the ignition I'm opening the garage now shut up and quit rushing me!"

Its cute but the volume is a but much.

 

All cars since 2006 are mandated to have this chime as a safety warning indicator. I'm sure you can cut the wire to the belt but it will certainly affect the airbags - I wouldn't recommend it....now if you can find a junked car and just click an old seatbelt into the passenger side latch that would be useful.

 

~35 lbs? It was gonging at me on my maiden road trip for 200 miles until I figured out it was the unbuckled weight sitting in my front seat, all 10 lbs worth of camera bag and satchel. actually my gf likes the bong sound

 

If I drove around with that GONG chime going off I would either go crazy or be crazy, but that's me.

There are only two cures for your GONG problem, the least painful option is to head on over to the electrical subforum as bluemeanie357 suggested.

 

Well, my R56 isn't in for another week, but I'm glad I read this thread. I'll definitely remember not to throw my Timbuk2 bag in the front seat! I actually drove a 3 series for a bit while my R53 was getting a clutch and flywheel. If the R56 is anything like that, then I feel for you Red Bull. Wish I could help.

 

Some of you mention adjusting the volume of the gong. Anyone with the OEM Nav done that? That option doesn't exist in mine. No volume control of the gong in the Nav setup options or the tach menu options.

 

It's not just the seat sensor it's also having the drivers door open.As of yet there is no way to silence the gong.

Dude you did it!! You just solved the problem!! To think I didnt think of that...

This is a good question. My solution is to make it habbit to put my seatbelt on BEFORE I turn Coop on. And as for things in the passenger seat that trigger the chime, isnt that what the trunk is for?? Thats where I put my backpack. I know the trunk is small on MINIs, but there is one there...

 

What is this trunk you speak of? I always put my BP in the boot.

 

I'd say that was the most useful post in the thread.

Wear the seatbelt or you may very well wish you had some day. Remember, you may be a GREAT driver, but there are plenty of others out there who are TERRIBLE drivers.

 

Pleeeeeeeeeese...this is not about wearing my seat belt.....thanks for pointing out the obvious...I could have figured that out DAD. I do wear my seat belt...now people with ideas would be welcome to hear from.

I am thinking about putting a bypass switch to the seat sensor..maybe that is a starting point

 

Well, if you're wearing the seatbelt, like a good boy, son, then why are you hearing the "Gong" (it's more of a ding, btw) ?

 

Locate the speaker under the dash that produces the sound...a little squirt of whipped cream in there will take care of it.

 

Thanks Pops...so let me rephrase the question for you. How do I silence the gong or ding ding when I am working on the car with the ingintion on and I am parked???? Not driving!!! I know my elders always like to wear their seat belts even when they are parked, no problem with that..saftey is important especially when your really old..... but it drives me nuts..

 

Take the key out of the ignition.

I know... you like to listen to your hip-hip music, right, sonny ? Invest in a radio for the garage. Or is money too tight for you since you're so young ??
