A good set of trackday wheels?

Hi all,

I am after buying a set of trackday wheels. The wheels will only be used for tracking so looks arent important!
I have black R105 alloys on at the moment and there is no way Im taking these anywhere near the track.
Im after something cheap and if possible lightweight...

Which of the OEM Mini Wheels are suitable?

Cheers

OEM MINI wheels for the track? Cheap and lightweight? ummm... none.

Look at Kosei, Team Dynamics and Rota for cheap, light track wheels.

The intersection of cheap, lightweight and durable is hard to find. We sell the Enkei Racing wheels, that are both durable and lightweight, and, well, cheap is relative I guess. Personally I'd opt for durable first, light second and cheap only if the first two requirements were also met.

The RPF1s are easily the most poplular/common Enkei Racing wheel at a track day (look at Miatas, Hondas and Minis).

We keep these in stock in most of the popular sizes...drop me a line if you need a quote.

Holies are great! I dont know if they will work on the new cars.

Were you thinking 15, 16 or 17?

The lightest OEM wheel is the S-winders from what I've heard..

R102 S-winder ET48 17.4lb (7.9kg)

15x7s 41et RPF1s will clear OEM R53 calipers. As for BBKs...that's a different, case by case story.

Enkei Racing wheels are strong and durable and the price is reasonable.

I bought a set of CenterLine RPM 17x7 for about $170 ea. They weigh about 16 lbs. which is very light for a 17" wheel. The finish is polished aluminum, which means raw aluminum. So, they have to be waxed periodically to keep them from pitting. The finish quality is not great. The company has a very bad customer service record and earned a "F" rating from the BBB. Sometime ago this model wheel was known for developing cracks, but they seem to have redesigned them since then.

For 16" wheels, the Rota Slipstreams are only 13.9 lbs. and about $170 each. They have a better finish, and Rota seems to be a better company.

15" Mini Steel Hollies FTW. Lightweight, inexpensive and strong.

When making your decision check the manufacturing process. It also depends on how serious of a track star you are. Feel free to PM me with any questions. I do agree with durability and strength being the most important asset. Good luck and happy tracking!

PS I run RPF1's and am very happy with them, and they're VERY well priced. You can find used ones for fairly cheap if you look around.

I am also looking for track/autoX wheels in 16x6.5 sizes. I already bought 16" R-comps, so I plan to use 16"x6.5 width wheels (stock autoX class).

I've narrowed down to Rota Slipstreams since they are the most affordable. Pictures above makes me a little nervous... enough to consider more expensive forged sets, like Motegi Traklites and SSRs.

The question is, what did it take to do that damage? You can destroy any wheel with enough force...

Yes, any wheel can get damaged with enough force. I'm sure these incidences are blown way out of proportion.

This is not the 1st accounting I know of these type of failures. You don't see these dramatic issues in photographs from other brands.

Would you recommend Motegi Traklites? or any other brand on Tirerack (Enkei, Kosei) for that matter? Thanks.
