OOOOOOH... thanks for posting Apple. I was just talking to the husband about something like this when we went on our road trip in October... we were wondering if there was something out there.

Got my 2nd speeding ticket (in my whole life) at the I-75 and Rt 98 intersection near Brooksville last September. Apparently it was air patrolled and I was shocked when I got pulled over. I was getting off the exit to get something to eat at that McDonald's right there. It was so weird... the FHP guy actually backed down the N.Bound on ramp and had his lights on and I just pulled over to the right to let him by... but he didn't GO BY! He just stopped behind me. No warning... nothing... just a ticket. I was told that I was doing 82 in a 70... but if you look up info about this trap online it is very common for them to tell the driver that it was either 81 or 82... but no radar is used to confirm. They just have someone ride behind you in a vehicle to check the speed with their speedo. (I forget what that is called.)

I was going to go back and fight it but I didn't. Probably would have cost more in gas and time to do that. IMHO, I have thought that maybe they look for license plates of people that aren't close enough to dispute but... I have no proof. Anyway, the northbound lanes are marked with lines about 2 miles back from the exit so when you see the lines SLOW DOWN. FHP is usually just on the other side of the overpass waiting to get you. If you get off the exit you will see that they have a nice newly widened intersection... paid for by yours truly and many others.

Funny thing is that since being on NAM I've seen that the speedo isn't really accurate... so I was probably going slower than I thought.

Also check out Trapster. It is free and one review claims it is better than Speedtrap.

I suspect they are at least days old, if not weeks. Still, an indication of favorite locations for traps.

I frequently drive from Bradenton to MacDill on I-275 and/or I-75. I keep up with traffic that is usually going 80-85 and there are cars passing me. I rarely see a cop, PTL. I haven't had a speeding ticket since the mid-70's and don't intend to get one now. Thanks for the Brooksville tip. I get up that way rarely but I will keep my attention to looking for the marks on the road. Thanks.

Another interesting option is this program - updatable by susbsciption - which downloads into all the most popular GPS makes. The GPS alerts you by a voice prompt whenever you approach a known speedtrap. Clever idea, IMHO.
