Holy crap this addiction is worse than I thought!

I went to look at MINIs today (the closest dealership is an hour away, so I try to make a day of it )... and I bought one!!!!

It's an 02 Cooper Cosmos Black w/white... sport pkg, heated seats, sunroof, auto climate control & multi function steering wheel...

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO excited!!!!!!!!

They couldn't do the paperwork today (stupid government offices closed on Saturday), so I have to go back up on Monday to sign my life away and hand over the keys to the Spec V.

Here's my first pic of my baby:

I'm already looking at new wheels and an intake and that little cubby hole organizer and a checkerboard flag from Cooperflags.com ... whoever said hang on to your wallet is right!

Cheers (counting the hours til Monday)

Yes, I traded in my Spec V. Told you I was obsessed!

It's got 175 hp, 180 lb-ft torque, limited slip differential... 300 watt sound system w/subwoofer... 4 doors and room for a week's worth of camping gear in the trunk.

It has been a fabulous car, and if it was for any car OTHER than the MINI I'd never part with it.

However, I've been pining after a MINI for a year and a half... and now the company I work for works on the MINI.ca website. In fact, I was in the photo studio when we took the new 360-degree images... and I was the one who recorded the sound effects! (Click on open hood to hear the engine... and hover over the steering wheel on the interior surround to hear the horn). We do all of the configure/compare tools for them -- the project manager even borrowed the model MINIs from my office to decorate our boardroom for a meeting. It was simply too much! I had to give in or spend the rest of my days gazing lovingly at the high-res shots while sitting on my unemployed rear after I got fired for spending too much time looking at MINIs :D.

Yes...longest...Sunday....ever. The hardest part is I'm not telling anybody at work... just going to show up Tuesday and park 'er in the visitor's spot .

haha let the newbie bashing begin!

I chose to get an 02 Cooper (it's used - 14k on it) now because I could get a really good deal for my Spec - doing the owner's financing thing and the residual is so much better on the MINI that I'm not taking much of a hit AND I get to drive a MINI...

I went to the Test Flight back in June or July... got to take out a Cooper/Cooper S/Cooper w/CVT over the course of an hour and drive 'em like they were stolen over a mini autocross track. It was the best thing I have ever done! Driving them back to back like that let me decide if I could live with the Cooper (and I most certainly can) until I can afford to order my own MCS right from the factory.

The only thing I will miss is the low end torque - if you stomp on the gas at the lights, you'd better just hang on because the power is there instantly (along with the torque steer ). I'm going to have to get used to that before I start zipping out in front of oncoming traffic .

LOL let me clarify: if I stomp on the gas in the Spec, I've got gobs of torque... it's the loss of this low-end grunt with my MINI that I'll have to adjust to.

Didn't 'splain that very well, did I...

*sigh* less than 48 hours to go.

Here's a question for you - how long between oil changes when using Mobil 1 or similar synthetic? The sales guy I spoke with today was a wee bit of a newbie himself and I'm not quite sure he gave me the right info.

OIK< miniholic, you're now in for the REAL ride of your life. Only in a MINI will perfect strangers come up to you to talk about your car. That rarely happens in any other vehicle, I don't care how tricked-out it is.

While you're waiting out Sunday, spend some time here and see what you can do in a year from now! You know you'll join us - just check the pics!

Welcome to our little obsession.

This is as 12 step program, but as the suspension of a Mini cannot handle stairs we just admit to having a problem, get in out Minis and DRIVE!!!

Nice Mini as well

I checked out the site when you posted the ferry pic - sweet!! Will definitely save some vacation time for that weekend 2004!

I must admit that the most fun I had last year was a driving trip through Pennsylvania in early October. The colours were awesome, and the roads were incredible! Wouldn't mind taking another major road trip with my new black beauty... is there a MINI group around there?

I've been trying to go through this site and get up to date on who's who and what's what but HOLY COW there's a lot of info!

miniholic, Congratulations! Yes we're all MINI crazy! Have a blast with your new baby!

Don't know where you're located, but be sure to keep an eye on the Mid-Atlantic and New York/New England forums. There's usually something going on and you only need show up! After just a couple of outings you'll feel really comfortable.

There is also a group on Yahoo called "phillymini", for the greater Philadelphia area.

Good luck!

I actually am working today (Sunday) so no drooling for me -- it's also in the showroom (or I hope has been sent to be detailed so I can pick it up Monday night).

It is the hardest thing to not tell anyone - I am SO friggin' excited I can hardly sit still .

I'll be back here later on to help me pass the hours that I won't be sleepnig tonight .

Cheers

Please step away from the car, we will shoot you! Oh, thats your car?!?

Congrats!!! We all know how you feel. There is a 12 step program for MINI owners but so far no one is taking it. I think I am going to loose money on that investment. Don't know how my wife ever convinced me that someone would actually do that program. :???:

Now you will have to convince your boss that there really is a reason you have to run over to record that new sound in some far off distance that only the MINI can go.

GREAT to hear you have a MINI. After you get a chance to drive it more would you let us know how you think it compares to your Sentra Spec V (more in depth). Your brief comparisons are good but it may take time to appreciate the difference so no rush on that-unless you already know.

I had considered the Spec V when it first came out. I never got one and am glad I got the MCS instead.
Cheers!

Hey There,

Like you, a year ago I made a visit to the closest dealership (Nashville) and bought one. I have been very happy with the car ever since. Not only will you have to adjust your spending, but also your time management. Anytime you park, be prepared to handle the occassional shouts by folks wanting to know more about your car. I love the b/w combination. Did you get a good price on the car?

Jim

I undid it

After getting the numbers from the bank, it seems smarter for me to keep the spec and work harder at paying down the prinicpal than to finance the difference for 4 years.

They're taking the Sold sign out of the window and giving me back my $500 deposit. Which I am going to spend on alcohol so I can forget this sorry day ever happened.

Being a grown up sucks. Sometimes just because you CAN afford to do something doesn't mean it is the smartest thing to do. Which sucks even more.

Still going to get one, just not right now. *sigh* back to pining over my models.
