Has anybody replaced the stock OE RFT tires with a same size (195/55R16) performance tire and can report on the sidewall differences between the two? I expect better ride but does it steer and corner with less flex?

I changed from runflats to non-runflats and my MINI now steers and corners with more flex.
It does ride smoother though, and, to be honest I don't have the same size tires now. I went from 195/R55/16's on 5-stars to 15" Konig Rewinds with 195/60R/15's.
I doubt you will get "less flex" from non-runflats.
Resmini you went to a higher cross section -60- and those sidewalls will flex more.
What type of tires are you using?
Yep, but even factoring that in I'd still say the runflats will flex less because the sidewalls are so stiff.
I got Falken 912's, mainly cause I couldn't resist the low, ($51), each price, and Consumer Reports rated them highly.
Actually they are just fine, and I don't know if this has anything to do with their quality or not, but the four new Konig Rewind wheels and Falken tires only required 1/4 oz. of weight to balance......three of them required no weights, and one required 1/4 oz. I never had that happen with a set of tires before.

Found this quote on another thread, maybe it will help answer you question.
"Careful now.
Different brand and model tires have vastly different side wall stiffness. Any tire model and size needs to be evaluated on a car like yours with the same suspension set up.
In case you decide to take a third party's advice be sure that they are experienced drivers and have driven that exact tire size on a car like yours."
