Does anyone have a great tire place in Charlotte NC? I am looking on getting new run flats for my R52. Any great tire experiences?

Mr. Z,
I have had MANY positive experiences with Discount Tire. The best prices come from the online store. Go to www.discounttire.com Once at the website go to the home page and get there 800 number. Call and order your tires over the phone. I just replaced tires and wheels and saved ~$400 by ordering this way versus ordering on line. There prices are really good and you can have them delivered to a Discount Tire store near you if you don't want to mess with the installation yourself. Again, I have had nothing but positive experiences with these folks. Good Luck.

I'll third the motion for Discount Tire co. Just got a great deal there a couple months ago on my Falkens - went to the one up in Concord.

I buy all my tires for both MINI's and truck at Discount Tire. They only do tires and that means no other problems to deal with. Personally you can get a set of NITTO neogens for what you would pay for 1 and 1/4 run flat. All you need is a can of fix-a-flat and cell phone. I haven't used run flats since the 1st ones wore out. Discount Tire and they are all over the Charlotte area.

One guy told me that if I but non run flat on my R52 the car would drive badely because the suspension was designed for run flat ...i.e. steel enforced side walls. He said that the car will become very unresponsive...have you had this experience? thanks for your advice... PS: running Dunlops 9000 and they are noicy.

Actually, they got it backwards in that the early Minis (pre '07) were not designed for run-flats and don't do well with them. The convertibles are still in the old bodystyle and are not designed for run-flats. When the '09s come out they will be on par with the R56's suspension.
All tires have steel in the sidewalls. The run-flats just use more rubber in the sidewall which makes them very stiff.
Standard tires will make a world of difference, positively, in the ride and handling of your car. If you go with cheap tires the handling will probably not improve although the ride will. A good quality tire will transform your car. There as many opinions as to which tire is best as there are owners.
My own experience has been with Falken Azenis RT-615 and Goodyear Eagle F1 GS/D3 and Goodrich KDW's. The best handling of the 3 has been the Falkens, as well as the least expensive, followed by the Goodyears, the most expensive, and then the Goodrich which were very noisy. Kumho upper end all seasons are quite good. Folks have had good experiences with Nittos as well as Michelin. A lot depends on your wallet and driving style and conditions.

Wish I could make it but I work up north near UNCC so 6:30pm at Tega Cay is not feasible. Have a good meet and eat.

We won't go in to eat until 7:00, unless everyone agrees it's too cold to hang outside, and we don't mind late-comers if you still want to come.

Happy Birthday Trace

Happy Birthday Trace - I remember (barely) when I was 40
I'm glad you decided not to wait on me for lunch Saturday - I didn't get away from the dealership until after 2! I wound up going to Zaxbys for some chicken YUM!
See you all tonight!
Steve

Starbucks

Greetings all!
If anyone is interested (Susan, David ) I will try to get to Starbucks in Ft. Mill slightly before 6. The address is 926 Market St. Ft. Mill and it is in the Baxter Towne Center. Take Exit 85 off I-77 - Baxter Towne Center is adjacent to the Interstate.
Just trying to keep up
Steve
