TPMS for MINI

I've got a R56 and it has the idiot-light type TPMS system that MINI provides.

Is there a TPMS monitor that can "read" the existing MINI sensors in the factory wheels? I realize there are aftermarket system with their own sensors, but I was wondering if the sensors I already have work with any of them.

(I'd obviously be looking for a system that actually shows pressures rather than just showing a warning.)

Minis don't monitor tire pressure. They monitor tire revolution. If a tire revolves faster then it had before, then the warning light comes on assuming that that tire is loosing air.
If you want to monitor tire pressure then you will have to go to a complete aftermarket data logger system I think.

That was changed during the 2007 model year to be an in tire pressure monitor as mandated by the feds.

The latest issue of the NAM Alliance Magazine (Issue 4) has an article about the system.

I know the Mini system changed, but was that a fed requirement? I thought the requirement was just to have some kind of tpms.

that was changed in 2007 to be an active system. previous to that it could be a passive system.

Do you have a link to this change? I can't find anything except the requirement that after 9/1/07 cars in the US market must have some kinf of TPMS.

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/staticfiles...August2005.pdf

page 17shows bmws argument for using passive system which was shot down.

page 35 and a few other pages show 9/1/2007 requirement for showing a warning light. in all it looks like bmw petition for a passive system got show down, and they had to use an active system but they did not have to comply with that requirement until 9/1/2007.
