Without having anything in the pic to show the actual size of the pieces...i'll guess a throwout bearing, from the melted plastic.

EDIT: d'oh!... waited to long to submit the post.

I do have to say that I'm pretty disappointed that this lasted 10 months - I'm getting tired of pulling the transmission.

Just when I thought the Getrag-6 swap would make for the LAST trans pull for the year - the f'ing cheese! release bearing gives it up.

Maybe you guys could design/fabricate one with little, to no plastic content.

I've never heard of such a issue with the Getrags...

Anyway, does anyone know if Clutchmasters includes a release bearing in their MCS kits? Because when I'm going to do the swap, I was planning to fit a FX100 clutch instead of the stock one...

Well since the S and non-s use the same or similar release bearing, the only way around it would be aftermarket. I've gone through a few of these myself...It's really annoying that a $30 part can cause so much trouble!

What are the chances of finding an aftermarket release bearing that will work with a stock pressure plate?

Dunno, but maybe it will be worth considering an aftermarket clutch kit the next time you've got to change your clutch or do some work related to it

This said, I repeat my question...do you know if Clutchmasters supplies their own release bearing with the FX100 kit for the S and if they do, is it stronger?

what are the germans smoking? why would they put plastic parts on a heat generating unit, bolted to a hot motor? there is enough problem with cheap modern TO bearings, without putting plastic in them. Get the specs, there must be a better bearing out there, if you go to a bearing store. Sorry, i cant help with a name, i know theres one not far from here, but i dont know its name, there must be some inthe states somewhere.

If you find a replacement that will work with a stock pressure plate, then please let me know...I will hold of a little before I undertake my clutch replacement. I don't want to use the stock release bearing since I've already fried 2 in less than 20k miles.
