HK Amp Replaced - No Sound

Hello,

I purchased a used HK amp to replace my dead one the other day. When I hook up the "new" one I get no sound. The HU lights up, no apparent errors.

Is there a trick to this swap?

Disconnect the battery?

Thanks.

What assurance did you receive that the used amp was 'good?'

I believe it was working in the original MINI before it had its stereo transplant... so I "assume" it's good.

Looking Ahead

Is there a vendor out there who does repairs on these amps (other than the dealer?) It'd be nice to find someone who can fix 'em rather than spend the $700 - $900 for a "new" one.

It's looking like the used amp is no good....

what exactly makes these amps go. its ridiculous that you spend extra on a premium sound system and they fail for no apparent reason! total ***** imo, even if they do sound good.

I've heard that the failures are due to any number of things including the amp's location in the boot (vibrations and/or moisture), poor QA, excessive heat/cold....

I'm currently trying to find an "authorized HK" repair center to fix the dead one I've got. When I called the nearest dealer and asked about a replacement I was told they now fetch ~$1100!
