Bridgestone RE960 Pole Position
Bridgestone RE960 Pole Position
It has been a year since any comments on the Toyo Proxes 4 and about the same time frame for the Bridgestone RE960 Pole Poistion tires. I am headed for an all season tire for my Clubman S. The run flats are just too harsh and I fear what they'll do in any snow in Cincinnati, the city of seven hills and snow.
Any snow comments on the Dunlop run flats and especially either of the all season tires would be helpful. I have T1R's on my Miata, so I sort of know the Toyo tire.
Thx

Simple.

For All Season tires
Start your search with RE960 (solid all season tire)
Probably worth the extra cost vs Kumho All Seasons (Good on budget)
Toyo Proxes 4 and Falken 912 also worth considering
Runflats can be run in snow if all season type. Won't be as good as RE960.
Just go slow.

I really think the stock all season runflats will do just fine in the snow this winter. My MCS came with Goodyear runflats & they were harsh, but they did fine in the wet & the snow. The MINI is FWD & light. It goes through the snow great & I don't think second generation MINI owners need to worry as much about deeper snow since your MINI has a tad more ground clearance than the first gen. Those runflats will wear out quick, so you will be able to switch to regular tires soon enough. Just my three cents old buddy. Worst case I would say is try it out in the first snow, if you don't like them, get rid of them.

I have the RE960AS tires on one of my other cars ('00 Stratus) in 215/45-17 (same size as I use on the MCS). They have been excellent all-weather tires including use in snow, and handle very well. I am contemplating a set for the MINI to use in winter.
The 960s replaced the original 195/60-15 tires that came with the car, and made the car much more tossable into turns that I expected.

I settled for a set of the Toyo 4's after much deliberation and great input from everyone. With less than 100 miles, I am totally satisfied of my selection.
Having the Toyo T1R's on my Miata was making me lean that way. They have been so perfect for a super charged car that likes fast turns on the back roads in our tri-state area. They are totaly quiet, too.
The second factor was price. The local performance tire shop installed the Toyo's at a price that was considerably below the Bridgestone's. I know the RE960 got rave reviews from a lot of people and am sure it is a very good tire, but I had to consider the value.
Thank you for your counsel to make a tight decision.
