'03 MCS 60K miles, Engine dies at high rpm

Strange problem just started occuring, Trying to pass a truck, downshifted and gunned it, revs crept to over 5K but under redline, engine shuts down and needs to turn key off and restarts fine, while slowely decelerating. Replaced fuel filter (pia), plugs, sc belt and IC bellows (somewhat loose). Check engine light resets after 3 starts. Stock pulley. This has happened 5 times and is repeatable. Can any code reader get a code that can be translated to BMW? or is this a trip to dealership (Prestige or Morristown?)
Please help!

Any Autozone or similar parts stores can read the ECU codes for free. Then come back the boards with those numbers and those who have the Bentley manual can look them up.

You have a bad Bypass Valve. It is common and, as I have said before, I am thinking there are a lot of '03s-05s with the problem but it remains unknown as the drivers of those cars rarely if ever gun it.

Now I'll stand back as the DT valve vs OEM discussion begins.

Can he get all of the codes from Autozone's and alike ?

For some reason I was under the impression that BMW/MINI held back on releasing some code data ?

They can read the "check engine light" and get the P9999 codes, which then can be looked up. I know that I've always been able to get these codes when my local Autozone hooked up their tool.

Thanks for the suggestions, I've heard the bypass was tough to change.
