Drive Shaft or Motor Mount

Ok, I have a ticking or clicking sound when taking off. One click and thats it. Most of the time while taking off its there but occasionally it does not happen. I think from my research I have norrowed it down to the drivers side drive shaft or the drivers side motor mount. How can I check for a bad motor mount. What are the consequences of driving around with a bad driveshaft and or a bad motor mount.

From: So far south in AL, one more step and I'm swimming (in oil)
My MC turned up with a bad driveshaft just before I sold it. I was feeling a vibration in the steering wheel over smooth roads. I thought I had tire problems but my mechanic helped me diagnose it by 1) rotating the tires to see if the vibration followed and then 2) realizing whether the vibration was during acceleration and / or coasting. The vibration did not follow the tire rotation and it was felt only during accelaration. Purchased and installed a new driveshaft and the vibration disappeared.

Continuing to drive on a bad driveshaft may caused additional problems in the transmission or wheel bearings if the vibrations gets too great.

I can't help with the motor mount troubleshoot.

Good luck,

Try doing a search on axle nut being loose. Kind of a known problem and a easy fix

It is the outer CV joint. If it will click for the dealer and under warranty, they will replace it.

My MINI was exhibiting the same symptoms as yours. I metallic clicking sound on the left side when setting out in first gear. Not all of the time, but most of the time. The dealer installed a new driveshaft. Sound was now gone with that fix.

Fast forward 2,000 miles. Now it was doing it again, same thing. Back to the dealer, now they have replaced the left front wheel bearing. Sound is gone with his second fix. Time will tell if it is truly fixed this time. Fingers crossed...

I had the click, like two pool ***** hitting together. New axle and click gone. I tightened my axle nuts several times and it never did make any difference.

What's the correct torque for the axle nut? And this may be a dumb question but what's the best way to remove the cap to access said nut?

you can see it when you take the wheel off. you will see it located in the middle of the rotor

182nm. the nut should be replaced when doing the shaft

Just letting you know I had an issue like this. Occasionally when taking off in first gear, or braking I would hear a single tap come from around the wheel area. Did this for two days, and nothing was wrong with the steering at all. Driving home one day the car shook like crazy, pulled over and the wheel was very loose. Tightened it up and problem solved.
