Is there any option for Led Daytime Running Lights for the R56, either from mini itself or 3rd party companies?

 

Sorry, but what's an LED Daylight?

 

In Europe the cars all come or will come in a year withstandart led daylight lights that will be always on in daytime. Check Audis leds

I have a solution of the fabricated kind.
Starting with these:

Installed on the lower part of the grill, at the bottom.
Im still looking for a grommet to make it look all
professional factory like.

I just installed them as on demand rear DRLs hidden in the
reverse light holes. They are awesome.

They'll definately work for front DRLs. I just have not
worked it out 100% yet.

I do like the Audi LED running light and wish there was an easy aftermarket solution.

Condor -> the LEDs you mention looks like a nice option to work with. The alum housing is certainly necessary since a 1W LED without sink material will get quite hot. The hard part is figuring out were and how to install on the mini and look OEM. If you have some pictures of them mounted, please post!

 

Day time driving lights (DDL) in LED!!

 

Oh, I didn't know what you were referring to. Those new Audi lights are pretty cool, but whenever you start borrowing automotive styling cues from one car to apply to another car you need to be careful... (cough...ricer....cough).

My GTI came standard with "city lights" which are 194 size bulbs in each of the high beam reflector housings. I replaced these with some 5-way amber SMT LEDs (surface-mounted, brighter than normal LEDs). These are quite visible during the daytime and would be an easy addition to headlights without city lights.

 

I will get a pic this week and if people are
interested a semi how to.

I'll also try to come up with something for my plans
for the front ones. And see if anybody has ideas
to make that idea better.

 

I dont own a ( cough....ricer...cough) but this is the first time I have ever heard that using design ideas from other cars is...RICER!!!! OH, Audi is German so its OK to borrow or use designs from German or other manufacturers !!! Don't get it......

 

To be frank i hate customizing using 3rd party products (very few are well made), or even worse to make my own customizations (it can be very ugly doing things like that to a car so beautifull).
I only wish mini would have its own Led Driving Lights, then id be 100% certain of the outcome!

 

DRL's and the Audio that is from an R8 which is 120K car they are suppose to look cool for that price, lol.

 

Many times The Man doesn't have what you want, thus,
you have to make it.

But it IS best to think long and hard before cutting a hole in
your car.

Thus the time delay - from last thanksgiving when idiot in
the direct tv van hit me, to implimentation (last weekend).

From 2 inches it looks factory.

 

That's exactly what I was referring too. I am not saying that it would be ricer to cleanly adapt those LED front lights to your Mini, but you need to realize youre walking a thin line there...

Think how Altezza (Lexus IS) lights, halo (angel eye) headlights, Celis tails, etc, have flooded the aftermarket and taken away from manufacturer's original intention. If you figure out a way to add LED DRLs to your Mini, it's only a matter of time before you inspire some high school kid driving a '95 Civic to do the same thing, and it all snowballs from there...

Keep it OEM+. If you like the look that much, I've seen some attractive lease deals on '09 Audi A4s.

I want to clarify only one thing.
I like my mini "no kraut" as the saying goes.

The rear ones are conceiled in the rear lenses.
The front ones (planned) will be used as DRLs.

I looked long and hard for these LEDs and thought it through.
These are not bling bling LEDs.
They'll be closer to a set of front fog lights, just low watt low
heat, and look like part of the car, factory.

I'm sure of it or I wouldn't do it. "no kraut".

But you're right, I won't be able to stop HS kids from
copying it and doing a bad install. Mine ***will***
look like factory.

 

OK..gotta ask...what does " NO KRAUT" mean??? Does that mean you don't want any German parts on your Mini???

 

Kraut was created as the german response to rice, and I presume it spread to cover all euro vehicles.

The reverse lights are now GM 5/8 inch side marker bulb
holders with rayburg super white bulbs. The holders I
got from advance auto. I put it in the side so I would
have reverse lights, no codes. The LED rear safety lights
actually fit perfectly in the hole no machining. Although I'm
going to put a drop of glue on it this weekend because one
wiggled around. The switch I got from autozone also.
I only use these under extremely limited conditions.

Looks like a nice job...I assume the switch inside make the lights go on. Did you try to make it so the lights go on when you go into reverse?

 

No. I could have by just wiring them to the socket.
It is a manual on and off. I got the safety toggle
because I don't want these things on by accident.
The're really just for extreme tailgaiters and people
you can see comming up on you at 90, weaving across
the lanes like you are not there (ie, texting, not giving
a floopin flop about anybody else). And anytime in NJ.

I don't ride around looking for opportunities to use them.
I also flash the rear fog first. It's a 1 lane road for me to
work, with hundreds if not thousands of cars going along
happily in the queue, at or near the speed limit.
You will not get where you are going faster by
being 2 ft on my bumper. It's actually not **that** often.
But I'm tired of it, and took corrective action.

I hope to have the front DRLs on the lower front grill comming up
in a month. These would be just for general safety.

 

I would like to see a "city light' mod, maybe added to the oem driving or fog lights that come on with the parking lights and/or interior fade in/out.

 

i've been waiting for someone to sell the Hella LEDayLine led daytime running lights. seems like an easy install.



otherwise, i found something like these for sale on fleabay and various sites. this price here seems tempting.
