A 2002 MC holds .91 # + or - .02#. this is according to a green tag on top of radiator. look under your bonnet. I doubt an S is different but not positive.

I had mine done at Firestone and they put .91 in it, its a 2003 MCS...
your correct, No Freon in a MINI. Freon is a brand name of the Dupont Company and generally refers to R12 refrigerant. All new cars use R134a. Whereas R12 could utilize a sight glass for proper filling, R134a cannot and is much more sensitive to proper filling than R12. So, make sure you get the proper specification on how much refrigerant your particular MINI holds, or the system may perform poorly or dump it all out...or both.
Oh yes, I can buy R12 in little cans as I am a certified Auto A/C technician and thus have a license to purchase R12. It is very expensive however. I also have about 45 lbs of the stuff sitting in my garage.
