R50/53 Cooper Brand Tires
Cooper Brand Tires
I'm thinking of going to non-run flats for my Cooper S and was wondering whether anyone here has any experience with Cooper Brand tires. I was looking to use their Zeon Sport A/Ss and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Cooper Tires on their MINI or other vehicles? Thanks.
I have Cooper tires on my CTD, wife's '02 Monte SS, and had them on my old S-10 Blazer and wife's old Mustang. I never had any problems with them. The price is right and performance has been good. I don't need tires on my MC but I would definitely consider Coopers for the Cooper.
I just replaced the runflats on my '07 MCS with a set of Cooper CS-4 Touring tires. I've only had them on for a week so can't tell you much about performance so far but they are a lot more comfortable than the runflats and rated for 60,000 miles. I need to "test" them on the mountain roads yet! I've had Coopers on lots of previous vehicles, mostly trucks, and always was well satisfied with them.
I've been driving the Cooper Zeon ZPTs 205/45/16 since July and have over 10K on them. I've rotated them twice and wear is far better then I had anticipated (I need to measure tread) for hard summer driving. These tires replaced a brand new set of Nitto NeoGens 205/45/16 I had run for about 1000 miles.
I like both the Nittos & Cooper tires and they are very similar in performance. Very quite and very sticky. Cornering is perhaps a bit tighter with the Coopers based on my break-away radius test, but only by a few mph.
So as I PM'd NOSUV4ME if the two brands were equal in price I'd go with the Coopers for the same reason SteveB stated - Coopers on a Cooper. If there was a large price difference I'd go with the least expensive.
Here is a picture:

One note for those that detail. The Coopers do not have a raised bead around the rim which makes putting on tire dressing without getting it on your wheel a bit of a challenge. The Nittos had the bead and it helps guide your applicator for better control. Here is a closer shot:

Matoskah -
Are you still runnning 16" wheels as noted in your description? I'm not certain, but when I go to the Cooper Brand site and input the tire size info I get 2 options - 1 All-Season (the Zeon Sport A/S) and 1 Summer. The CS4 may not be available in 205/45/17 - guess I'll have to contact my dealer. Thanks.
