DetailersWarehouse still around?

A few days ago, Detailers Warehouse made a couple of posts in the vendor forum (some 2 for 1 sales). I've tried to respond to them but emails are being returned and their website appears to be down.

Anyone know if they're still in business?

Thanks

I did as well, but when I got the PM back a few days later I saw the shipping charges were a profit center. I've decided to pass.

How bad was shipping? Not standing up for them, but Shipping for 2 bottles of epic on bogo was $5. Some competitors are more for shipping. Others are by how much you spend. I love DP.. but shipping for same would be $8. wow. would you call that a profit center too? lol.

Unfortunately. most companies these days charge an arm and a leg for shipping now...

Dont know about their website worries, but I got my bogo order today...

$15 for 4 bottles via USPS Priority Mail. Considering the boxes are free from the USPS and a Flat Rate box costs 9.xx to ship no matter the weight. I've shipped 48lb of rocks in one of these boxes from MD to Cali for the 9.xx rate. It's not that bad, just annoyed me, so I elected to pass.

Some places do ship in their own boxes w/ their own tape, packing peanuts, etc. Generally I see companies tacking on a surchage to cover the overhead associated with the shipping/packaging costs...

this is why most non-OCD folks just get the off-the-shelf crap, it seems.

i'd just buy through DP if you want Prima goodies.

Well my site shipping calculator charges the customer the actual shipping rate based on weight. When the calculator is way off, I'll refund the difference back to the customer. The worst problems I've had are when something is really light but still bulky and can't be shipped by weight. For instance, a foam polishing pad weighs almost nothing, but it won't fit into an envelope, but the buyer will still choose shipping for an envelope cause it's only $1, but when I put it into an envelope or box that has a thickness of 1" or more, it's now 3 times the cost, so I'm stuck footing the bill and that's not cool for me to pay you to buy something from me, lol. It doesn't happen that often, but if it did, I'd have to charge a minimum shipping fee to cover those times. I can't disable the 1st class shipping option because I also ship small items like PC Guards and microbrushes that fit into envelopes.

There are other times, when a customer will order a bunch of items--USPS quotes $25 for it, but I find it all fits in a Priority Flat Rate box for $9, so I'll ship that way and refund the difference.

When ordering through ShowCarDetailing.com , if you find a shipping quote that seems high--shoot me an email and I'll see if I can get it sent any cheaper--but items like Dirt Guards are bulky and won't fit into flat rate boxes, so you're stuck either paying the minimum 1 pound rate through FedEx or Priority Mail.

Also people should be aware that FedEx has a surcharge for residential deliveries..so a $4 quote to a commercial office might end up being $7 to a house.

Also, it's great when items fit inside of USPS boxes, but a lot of smaller items or larger items don't fit and boxes and packing material can add up to a couple bucks or more per shipment. All my FedEx shipments need their own packaging, and I use expensive bubble wrap to protect bottles during shipment. You can throw a Prima bottle 10 feet into the air and it'll just bounce around on impact with the ground, lol.

Here on NAM, DP and DW aren't the only options for Prima products ya know, lol.

Richard

Yeah, I ended up with Richard's packing peanuts all over my living room last time. The only thing is, going coast-to-coast (well, CA to MI) my bottles always end up dented. It just makes me laugh because I know it's the altitude on the plane, but I open this carefully packaged box and everything is all in its place... and all the bottles are sucked in.

Yeah sorry about the peanuts. I try as much to stay away from using them, cause I hate them too. I try to recycle the packing materials from my distributors whenever possible. As for the sucked in bottles--actually, I should take pix of them, but even the bottles on my shelf when they arrive are sucked in already--and that's coming directly from Prima. Since they are already sealed, I don't want to break the seal to let the air in, lol.

Peanuts don't bother me, it's fun trying to find my squirters. And the stuff works whatever the bottle looks like and it makes me laugh, so no harm no foul.

From Prima they are packaged at 5,280 ft in elevation. Down to Richard that is over 1 psi of difference - hence the sucking in part (more pressure on the outside then inside the bottle). So no worries when you open it since air rushes in.
Now things sent up here from sea level can be a different story. I've had ketchup glorp out when first open and that is a mess. Wizards Black Renew will do that too. So Richard, when you ship things up here please squeeze the bottle before closing it. I hate loosing any Black WOW due to pressure differences.
So ... Is Detailers Warehouse gone or what?

Thanks for the tip Chuck! Unfortunately, BW is sealed during the manufacturing process. Because of air bubbles during the filling process, there is already inherent pressure inside of the bottle before the sealing process.

I would just peel the foil seal slowly to let the air escape.

The early BW production needed sealing tape over the caps because we hadn't perfected the method for filling. But it's a different story now--no more messy tape to remove, and no more leaks. Opening shouldn't be an issue either. =)

As for DW--yeah, seems like they have vanished.

Just chiming in to second Richard on the home delivery surcharge. UPS adds anywhere from $1.50 to $3.00. There is also a "rural surchage" which seems to apply if you are anywhere outside a major metropolitan area. Add to all that there seems to be daily rate increases disguised as fuel surcharges.

On a typical month, we collect about 70% of what we spend on shipping. This doesn't include boxes, paper, tape or labor. Shipping is so not a profit center. LOL.

Yes, some places do, but when they state USPS Priority mail then one has a much better basis to understand charges. Tis a moot point now, they are gone.
