R50/53 The Italian Job MINIs
The Italian Job MINIs
can anyone name off the parts of the Mini Coopers in the Italian Job?
i really like the exhaust on one of them (white i believe) and i wanted to know what parts they have on them.
thanks!

theyre all stock S's,
as introduced.
colors are original.
but the ones that go through the train tunnel and the blue one in the helicopter/mini battle were electric.
watch the special features they talk about it.
the train stations dont allow carb emission cars cuz of the pollution.
so the movie's tech manager or somthing modded the carst o be fully electric, yet still sound like the S.
its pretty cool.

Speaking of The Italian Job Mini's ... is there any info available as to where the cars used in the movie actually are? Who owns them now?

alright. well my RA (resident assistant) and i were talking about them and her uncle actually owns the dealership that those mini's came from. So in the light of the talk i wanted to figure out what they had in them.
i know that the indie blue is a r50 but they switch them frequently throghout the movie. but i know that one of them has godly sounding exhaust. just wondering if anyone knew

It could just as easily been an added sound effect...not sure if anybody knows otherwise. The dialogue indicated they were modded...it's likely they weren't at all (except the electric ones).
The blue and white minis were R50s, the red one was a R53. They all had the custom white roofs even though the pepper white is not available with the plain white roof. The minis were all fitted with black side mirrors (not an option with the white roof). And as said they all had the aero kit bodies.
In regards to the exhaust and the sound of them going through the subway, dont get your hopes up
The minis used in those scenes had electric motors, as the city would not allow petrol engines in the subway. So the exhaust sounds were added in later.

well i'm not referring to the mini's in the tunnel haha. but even if it was "dubbed" in after the shots, i would for mine to sound that godley. and in some of the scenes you can hear the s/c and CAI whine, it's sooo nice. gosh definitely top 3 movies.
Yep... Saw them there a few years back when I did the plant tour. There's one of each (white, blue and red) in the showroom before the plant tour begins. The red one's got two steering wheels in it... I suppose Charlize Theron wasn't doing all of her own stunts!

Front fog lamps...
One thing i noticed in the movies is that they have ALL the front lamps turned on. I don't think its possible on a stock car to have the driving lamps and the front fog lights on at the same time...
Schultze always has his daytime running lights and front fogs on. He has all four pkgs, though...I see that your MINI doesn't have the convenience pkg, so perhaps that's why you've been unable to run both sets at the same time?
Hopefully someone will chime in...
Aren't the additional lights on the grill activated by either switching on your high beams or flicking an optional switch? So he could have turned his high beams on with his fogs on, hence all the lights are on?

I dunno if any one else caught this, but the IB one (driven by Mark Wahlberg in the chase scene) sounded identical to a Subaru boxer-4. Struck me as odd, because the other 2 actually sound pretty much spot-on.
that is what i'm talking about! it is so... throaty!
