6-speed swap

Well...I was too lazy to post on the TSW post so I decided to make my own...look if you want. There is a pic or two here...but a few more of the damage in the tranny to come. Thanks to all my Team Half *** homies. The fun part is putting this gaggle of crap back together (minus AC and all its parts)...

AFTER::::::::::

If I did that and my parents walked in on me at the same stage you are at, my head would surely be on the chopping board.

Well the Midlands didnt fare so well. As you can see its torn apart on the right of the photo. When we tore it apart it wasnt as bad as I thought. The top 2 gears in the top pan were chunked and the 32mm nut holding one of them on was stripped. Not the nut but the actual threads were missing...lol. Inside the case there were metal shards and gouges on the pickup arms but the gears look intact. So if anybody wants a set of decent gears...lol

So, upon removal of the engine and trans we found a few things that needed replacement.

1 - One of the shift cables because I used a screwdriver instead of a 12mm wrench to pry up on. The rubber boot was dry rotted and seperated from the housing.

2 - My top motor mount was completely dry rotted in a perfect circle around the bolt.

3 - While pulling the motor mount out I "overlooked" disconnecting the post O2 sensor and ripped the wires right out of it...but im not going to run an exhaust and I already have an CEL light...

4 - Eventhough the O2 sensor harness was tucked neatly away under the heatshield...at 4 points...the harness was burned almost completely through.

5 - Damn battery harness was chaffing again even after I fixed it (underside of battery box)

So, some things to look out for....mines an 03...

Ok....so anyways. Ran into my first hiccup....the bolts that hold the flywheel onto the block and the bolts holding the pressure plate/disc dont swap. They are different from a Cooper -> MCS. THAT wasnt in the TSW D.I.Y... So now the reconstruction is on hold until I can pick up the parts from the stealership cause LOWES RACING didnt have the bolts and neither did VATO ZONE....

Well, keep us informed on how the swap goes, I'd like to do that too, and I guess if my wallet allows me to, I'll start searching the needed pieces next month...so when you finish, if you can please post a complete list of what you had to buy for the swap, including bolts that don't match and similar, that would be great.

Ah, excellent catch - my Exedy kit came with all new hardware and I didn't even think about that!

When you get the part #, I'll add it to the write-up.

Did you find any broken teeth in the case of the Midlands like we did?

Man, that thing is SOOOOO fun to get apart, too. It was about Midnight when we decided (drunkly), "You know what would be fun to do? Tear apart that 2nd Midlands and see what was going on in there". And, we found teeth from the 1st gear and dog ring. Hrm, I'm thinking a transmission generally works better when there's all the teeth in place - ROFL.

All this crazy talk has me thinking a small Rotrex and 6 psi to get to 200 whp until I can build the stroker with ITB's...

We have pics somewhere around here.... When we took off the top cover...one of the shaft threads were completely stripped and the nut was floating around. The teeth on both gears were crunched. When we split the cases...there wasnt too much damage. The gold pickup forks were ground all the way down in chucks. But that was about it. A few gears had teeth chipped but still in a somewhat serviceable condition. But, you have to understand...I ran my tranny with no oil this time and over sped it to 8K.... Totally did it on purpose but no really...
