HELP - Weld Splatter on Thread of Coil ?

On the bottom of the threaded part of one of the front coilovers there is like a weld spot that keeps the locking ring from going all the way down. It's like weld splatter or something, a tiny little bubble right at the bottom of the threaded part of the coilover body.

Any ideas on how to get rid of that? I'll take a picture sometime tomorrow.

This wouldn't bother anyone else because it's so close to the bottom but I'm looking to DUMP my car. On PSS9s this means going ALL the way down.

For the front, (since the threaded section of the body stops before it reaches the bracket) are there any negative effects to running without the lower locking ring?

Unless someone wants to buy my PSS9s for $1450 and I'll pick up a set of KW V1s. They have just 5k miles and are in excellent condition.

Try taking a nail countersink and a hammer and try to break the slag or bubble off.

You just need a jewel file. You should be able to file it out without damaging the thread much at all. Search Google for miniature file set (jewel file). Should cost around $15.oo a set.

Find the one that matches the thread pitch and file away. Before you know it you will be on the ground .

Hmm thanks for the tip I'll pass by a local store, sounds like something they should have.

Anyone have a pic of PSS9 on full drop on 205/40/17 tires?

Trying to see if I should go ahead and just install the fronts without the lower locking ring the first time around.

Thanks for the tip Longboard, picked up a file set today and just got done filing the little bubble down. Actually didn't damage the thread AT ALL. Good as new, well, better than new actually since this was a manufacturing defect lol.

Has anyone actually run coilovers without the lower locking ring? I'm really considering it but don't want to risk ANY damage to the shock body what-so-ever.

Hmm one of the fronts I suppose? Strange, shouldn't it give about another 1/4" drop??

Installed them today. Front is full drop, rear has more to go. Didn't see the point in dumping the rear if the front doesn't match. Another half inch will suffice, but I want another inch down to be perfect.
