I wanted to add the aux input on my MCS, but the dealer told me that it was a dealer installed item. I was wondering if all the accessories are dealer installed items. If so, do you think the dealer should charge you labor to install them for you? I think that the dealer should just do it because you just bought a car from them. My dealer told me that I would be charged so I told him that I would do it myself. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Depends on the accessory I think and when they are ordered in relationship to ordering your car. The dealer is entitled to be paid for their installation time on anything you ask him to do. If you want to save install fees, do the installation yourself. The dealer will be more than happy to sell you parts he doesn't need to install.

Yes, all MINI Accessories are Dealer-installed, and usually a labor charge is glued on.

No, you don't have to have them install them, you can do it yourself like nfo says. It's easy.

Cheers,
Ryan

Options are factory installed and accessories are dealer installed. The factory does make it easy on you and the dealer to install the accessories by having some items pre-wired (CD changer wired in the back of the MINI for example).

The dealer has to pay for someone to install the accessories thus you really end up paying for it. That is how they make money, it doesn’t come for free. If you want it for free go to Cuba.
