About buying the JCW kit

Ok so my dealer is trying to charge me 2600 installed for the JCW stage 1 kit for the auto transmission. Now I think that's outrageous. So I was looking around and I found that Morristown mini is selling the kit for 1600ish. I like that price. Now my dealer was selling it to me way above MRSP. LAME.

Anyway I wanted to know is there any way I could buy the kit piece by piece? I never have a great deal of money at one time and it would make it easier for me to purchase. If not, I can buy it from Morristown and have it shipped to me and get the exhaust installed at a Mienake and the intake I can do myself and then just have the dealer do the Software.

Thanks for any info.

Is Morristown MINI really selling it for 1600 INSTALLED? I heard it was a minimum of 2100-2300?

Morristown does sell it for that, but only for local pick up or install (which you then have to pay for).
That said, they are trying to rip you off, or at least not giving you any kind of break. List is $2100 for the kit and book install is 2 hours (I think) at whatever their shop rate is. Look around here, it can be had for less than $2000 installed without a problem as long as your dealer is willing to work with you (some are, some aren't).
The intake and exhaust can be bought a la carte, so to speak; the ecu software is the hard part to get (as in dealer only and usually only as part of the kit). And you'll only get the best "deal" and warranty protection if you get it installed at a MINI dealer all together (well, you'll get warranty piece by piece but the price is better bundled).

Here is the JCW Stage 1 tuning kit from Morristown MINI:

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...catalogid=5277

Price is $1680.00.The kit part number is the same for the manual and automatic but when you give your VIN number the software disc will be for an automatic transmission.

You have to call their parts department to place an order since you can't order it online 1 reason being the software disc is VIN specific plus to check for availability. Now I was told in another JCW Stage 1 kit thread that the shipping charge was something like $80 but that could change depending upon the region.

See if your dealership will offer a price match or some sort of discount off the kit.Honestly you can buy the JCW intake and exhaust separately but it might cost more overall then buying the complete kit all at once plus I doubt they sell the software disc separately outside of the complete kit.

I have bought parts from Morristown Mini before. Short on service but price is good. I worry about returns as it is difficult to get hold of them. JCW Stage 1 is $1680 plus shipping (about 10%). I am not sure that another Mini dealer will install this for you. If they do, it is 2-3 hours.

I do not know when you install it yourself, how does the warranty work?

Morristown told me this. I can order online and I just note my VIN in the notes for the sale. They would then ship it to me upon receiving it. Although From what it sounds like I should go into my Dealer and see if they would be willing to price match (maybe 2100 installed)if not. I think my best bet would be to buy it from Morristown then get my dealer to install it for a not ridiculous price.

Like I mentioned in a previou post about my experience with Morristown Mini, price is great, service is ???

Price match may be the best way. You do not want to lose the warranty or have it changed from the duration of the normal warranty (up to four years) to two years.

I live in NC so I wouldn't even be thinking about getting Morristown to service it. I go to Hendrick Mini for the service here in NC. I'm kinda disappointed in the dealership though for trying to scam me.

Sorry for not being more accurate in the beginning, but I was taking about sales service not servicing the car. I do not bring my car there for car service so I cannot tell.

Most of the dealers here in the NE still charge list for JCW so Morristown has a great price. Do not pay more than three hours for install. And get the CD disk back after the install just in case you need it later for a reflash.

a great installed price

If you order online you pay 100 shipping. If you order local you pay 140 in tax.
It is best to buy it at your local dealer because if complications arise they will not be helpful. I noticed dealers will install it for a price but they hold a grudge when you don't order from them. They almost hope something goes wrong so they can be difficult and say I told you so.

Morristown 1780 delivered Install local 320-400 depending on the dealer. The total should be 2100-2200. If it is local a great price with tax and install is 2200. Anyone getting it for less than that has a special deal going.

My SA at Vista MINI said that it wouldn't be a problem with the warranty if I bought the JCW kit from Morristown MINI and brought the unopened box to them to install it and the labor time would be the same. They would do a warranty exchange if something was found missing from the unopened box before installation and also warranty it after the installation.Plus the warranty is covered at any MINI dealership.

According to my MA he said that the JCW Stage 1 tuning kit carries a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty but not the balance of the 4/50K factory powertrain warranty since it would be purchased after buying the car.

Vista Mini seems more customer friendly than some of the others here in the Northeast. Glad you found them.

I was told that the warranty is for the balance of the new car warranty when I installed mine. I will recheck with them.

Like I said that was according to my SA so yes best to check the warranty coverage on the JCW kit just so there are no sudden surprises down the road.

Sounds like that's what I am going to be paying. I am going in there tomorrow to give them shi* for trying to rake the price up. I live up on the north side near the UNCC campus. Although I work at the CPCC central campus so I am down on the south side almost everyday.

$2000 installed seems reasonable (in as much as $800 would actually be reasonable if it were anything but a MINI). I don't expect the $1500 deals people have gotten when they bought their 3rd MINI from a dealer, or even the $1800 people have really argued for.

That 2 year unlimited mileage sounds great to me - I do 35k miles a year! That would mean the jcw parts are under warranty for 70k miles

Yes it would be great

Out of curiosity I just did a google search for the JCW tuning kit factory warranty and found this but dated August 30,2007 and for 2007 MINI Cooper S:
Link:http://www.seriouswheels.com/cars/20...Tuning-Kit.htm

The John Cooper Works kit is sold and professionally installed through all MINI dealers in the U.S. A MINI Cooper S equipped with the dealer-installed package is fully backed by MINI’s 4 year, 50,000-mile new car warranty. Owners of an existing MINI Cooper S may visit their local MINI dealer and have the kit installed at any time. The balance of the factory warranty will still remain in effect. The full 2007 John Cooper Works kit retails for $2,100.00 plus a recommended 2 hours of labor for installation.
That seems to go against what my SA told me so check with the MINI parts department and the SA's for the actual warranty coverage.

My bodyshop has been buying parts from Hendrick BMW for almost 13 years. Even with my "discount", they wanted to charge me 1780 just for the kit.

I ended up driving down to Charleston Mini and had it bought and installed for less than what Hendrick wanted for just the kit. Granted, I got a great price for the kit but still, Charleston Mini doesn't owe me anything, I thought I'd get a courtesy price from Hendrick of Charlotte. NOT!

Stage I: RWHP approx. 190

ECU retune, CAI and exhaust.

Stage II: RWHP approx. 205

ECU retune, CAI, exhaust, bigger pistons and bigger turbo.

You can only get the stage II when you order the kit from the factory. Stage I is available after car is purchased.
