I searched and read all threads on the factory alarm system and could not find an answer to this.

I want to have an audible chirp when I lock my car rather than just the flashing parking lights. Does the factory alarm provide this?

Thanks!

Not to my knowledge -- it's a light-flash confirm only. I would like the audio chirp too if there were one.

There's no audible alarm. Just the flashing on the wiper stalk that is explained in the users manual, I believe. What is neat, though, is that the wiper stalk will start flashing after disarming the alarm IF the alarm has gone off while you were gone.

The factory alarm on my MCS will give an audible chirp if I lock the doors using the key but will not give one using the remote.

Thanks for the quick answers! Seems odd to chirp when locking at the door but not key. Oh well, still ordering the alarm kit!!

Gadgets must have gadgets!!!

Yes, it is odd but just went to my car to make sure. Works just as I said in my earlier post. Gadgets are good. That Flashing red LED will at least make someone think twice before breaking into your MINI.

I'd prefer something audible, too...but its funny how one adapts. I don't miss it at all now, its just what I was used to. I will say that flashing lights work better at 6am (when I'm locking my car up, in the dark, for the day) than at 4pm (tough to get a good view of the lights from my afternoon parking spot.)
