MINI in Car & Driver

AOL has a comparison of 404hp Escalade vs. MINI Cooper S on a drag strip.
Check out some of the lame comments fron SUV owners.

WHAT comparison?
Irresponsible morons still drive those (and similar) monsters. I associate them with the group of people that are polar opposites of my politcal stance.

I've got plenty of friends with large vehicles like that who use them for towing their cars to race tracks and for carting around their large families. Please don't be ignorant enough to generalize and stereotype the people who drive them as "irresponsible" simply because they have a vehicle that meets their needs. You do realize that some people on this planet lead different lives than you, right?

I also hope your political stance isn't also so narrow-minded as to naively think that everyone else is "wrong" just because they don't share 100% of your views.

Anyway, my buddy with his 6.1 liter Escalade EXT (which he uses to tow his race car) was running a few tenths of a second slower than my Mini this past April when we were all at the 1/4 mile drag strip together. It can be a bit disconcerting to see a large truck nearly keeping up with your "sporty car" when you are giving it full throttle.

Problem is, many folks drive these monster vehicles solo and don't tow or haul anything ...ever. Where I live its what all the soccer-moms drive. You can get little Johnny to the game just as well in a Prius as you can a Yukon.

Its these folks that irritate me, not the folks that pull boats and haul trailers.

anyone notice the wheel/tire set on the MCS? If the car had the 16s it might have got up to speed a little faster. The stock 17" take a lot of energy to get moving (take a look at the wheel's used by the GS autocross cars).

The bottom line is the last thing stated by the commentator in the aforementioned video clip...

"I know which one I'd rather have!"

Yeah, the guy in the video seemed to like MINIs and was apologetic that it didn't do better. You can make excuses about the driver or the wheels, but I think it's clear that even in the best of circumstances the S wasn't going to easily pull away as you might initially expect.

What you should get from the article is, never feel too smug about whatever you're driving. You might just get blown away by a Camry!

I think op post is reffering to the Comments on the Car & Driver article, the posters sorta aligned red=SUVvs blue="imports"/MINI. There was very (political) liberal and rightwing, vulgar, and anti-MINI comments in it. I was even trying to to arrange a fist fight with one of the posters, aol or c&d removed his posts but left mine, makes it look like I was egging on a fight. Kinda embarassed now

Hey it shouldn't surprise anyone that with BHP over 400HP the Escalade is fast in the 1/4 mile.

A thought of mine was, should the real impressive stat be 400(or so)HP SUV is beating a 170(or so) HP MINI Cooper S? OR The fact that a 170(or so) HP gnat (comparatively speaking of course) is keeping up with a 400(or so) HP hulk of a car?

Whatever, let them have the straight line, like the commentator said, once you get a slight inch of a curve, I know which car I'd rather be in... and I own it too

Actually I am not so shocked the Caddie made it through the quarter faster than the MCS given the the Caddie has more power and is a rear wheel drive car. I also think the test proved the point of the artical - that is a fun day at the track. It is just that had I been going to a 1/4 mile race (in stock form) I wouldn't have the big wheels on the car.

And at Willow Springs, should we have both of them tow a boat and 400 pounds of luggage and 3 passengers in each vehicle as well?

Should've put the Escalade up against the 09 MINI JCW then there would be no question which one is superior!
