AVG MPG over ??? miles

Just curious. I still haven't made it over 28.6 avg mpg, with a "new" to me, 04 MCS.... there are too many opportunities to enjoy hard acceleration. However, I'm determined to get it over 30 mpg. I just need to know how many miles I really need to 1st drive economically. Anyone know how the calculation is made? Thanks

Early upshifting (around 2,000 rpm) is the key to better mileage. 28.6 doesn't sound too far off base for a mix of average city/hwy driving.

Not bad. I have gotten 31 AVG by really going easy.
I've also gotten 18 AVG...

I average 31 mpg w/50/50% city/hwy mix. I skip shift, going 1-3-6 gear, shifting at about 2700 rpm. And I still get on it!

on highways and long trips, especially one that lasts a whole tank, i can easily average 30mpg if i go real easy and cruise control around 65-70. and i have a jcw! i've even had one fluke when i averaged 35! the key is to really resist putting the foot down even a little and use as little throttle as you can consistently. nothing else to it. oh and leave it in gear when you're coasting

I get about 28 mixed driving with my 04 MCS. Obviously, I get worse results when I'm doing 80 mph on the highway and enjoying boost and higher rpms when accelerating and cornering. I'd rather sacrifice a few mpg in exchange for driving entertainment, as opposed to the other way around.
