My halo lights have melted

I purchased a pair from MossMini and finally installed them last month along with my Aero Front Bumper. But today I noticed that the halo ring looks like it melted. The bulbs are the silverstar ones that also MossMini sells. I'm not sure whats wrong with it, but if other Halo Light owners check to see if their car has this problem. The attached pics are of both driver side and passenger side. I just don't know if MossMini will replace them free of charge or its a manufacture thing. And the pics need to be rotated.

Question...

Did the silverstar bulbs come with the angel lights or did you swap the lights out?

The silverstar bulbs were offered by MossMini to swap out the original orange light bulbs.

I've been running mine for a few years now with out any issues, I also have the silver bulbs installed from moss. Only thing I can think of is that the bulbs were not centered causing uneven heat. Just wondering did you try to change the little bulbs for the halo's to be brighter, just a thought..

its from driving so fast that the wind melted them im sure

but serioiusly it is defiantly possible. if the ones you put in get hotter then the origionals it will melt the plastic

I didn't change the bulbs for the halo, which is why I don't understand how it melted.

Ok...the bulbs for the halo rings weren't changed, but you did upgrade the other bulb, correct?

I haven't seen angel lights in person...is it possible that the heat from the upgraded bulb melted the halo ring?

Sounds like a construction defect. I would talk to moss directly. All the distributors I've ever dealt with (for mini parts, including Moss) have been eager to fix problems with products they sell. Moreover, I was just about to buy a pair so its good to know this could be a potential problem. I'd be eager to hear if anyone else has had a similar problem.

What is the wattage of the original bulb vs the replacement?....higher wattage bulbs have more thermal energy....they can also melt the connector for the bulb....although the melting can also be cause by a poor connection creating resistance which generates heat when current passes through it.

Both the standard and Sylvania bulbs are 1.75 amp and both are 21 watts...therefore there should be no additional heat from the upgrade.

How are they wired ? Was this plug and play or was there some splicing involved ? Was a wiring harness or alike supplied by Moss ?

Could be just a batch of LED's switched outside of spec's by the manufacturer's supplier which and not specifically rated for this application.

Call Moss, I am sure they would be interested in knowing about this.

Good luck!

It was a simple plug and play, just changed the housing and that was all. I could call Moss tomorrow, but I don't think their going to do anything about it.

What did MossMini do? Or did you find a way to fix them?

The Silverstars wouldnt melt the housing. They are standard filament bulbs. The only way is if they uprated the wattage. I have seen housings melt by going unly 10 watts on a bulb. Are the halos LED or Xenon? I know Xenon lights generate a crap ton of heat. The BMW guys were having problems with the Xenon light bulb upgrades melting the dome light housings and them catching fire. LED's should be fine....hmmmmm....

The halos are LED, thats how MossMini describes them. I was very surprised to see the housing melt, because I hardly drive that long at night. So unless the sun can melt them, I think the batch I got were made poorly.

Just called MossMini today, and they had a few cases already with the housing melting. So now I have to send them back, and they will send me a new pair.

I have the halos and this has not happened to me, hope it doesn't either. I changed my bulbs to the silver ones and no problems.

Danny, i got the silverstars like you and my halos are ok. And i installed mine prob a few months before you did yours. Remember when we compared our cars side by side and yours seemed to be brighter for some reason? Wonder if that has anything to do with it.
