Drivetrain Shrick Camshaft
Doug,
Yep, I have been testing it as well as a couple others, and they don't do as much as hoped for. It is one of those mods that I would do after all other options have been extinguished.
Of the cams available, the Schrick is the best one, producing as much as 6 horsepower and a few foot pounds of torque. You have to make sure you have the correct cam - the Cooper and the S are both available, and I have had a customer get the wrong one from other vendors - be sure to ask which one they have.
With the head and cam, the most you can expect to gain is 10-12 horsepower.
Hope that helps! Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

I was also interested in the shrick cam but if you consider the cost (roughly $500 for the cam, up to $1895 for the head, plus shipping/installation costs (4-5 hours?) for a conservative 10-12 horsepower gain??) it isn't the most cost effective mod. I guess I am dissappointed with the reality of it.

Stage 1 Cylinder Head, street port for use with stock valve springs and stock cam. Designed specifically for street driven MINIs, our Stage 1 Cylinder head package maximizes torque and HP within the portion of the powerband you spend the majority of your time driving in. The result is a smooth and broad power delivery. With our Stage 1 Cylinder Head package, air flow is increased an incredible 20% without sacrificing port velocity. Intake-Exhaust interport relationship is also optimized for maximum power with efficiency. The combustion chamber is then reprofiled for improved combustion properties. Depending on parts used in conjunction with this Cylinder Head package, power gains are potentially 20-30HP. Please note that the shopping cart price will include a refundable core charge of US$1000. Once the Cylinder Head package has been shipped, you have 30 days to return your original components back to our factory to receive your refund. Your original components must be in good, re-usable condition to receive the full core charge amount.

minihune,
I agree. It just isn't that cost effective for the gains. The head and cam are for hardcore folks who must have it all, and it is the only way to get more horsepower after all of your other avenues have been traveled.
I do carry the Schrick for the Cooper and the S, as it is the only one with high enough quality (ie, it is a billet not a regrind) and it does not cause any idle problems.
I am also going to be carrying two different heads - one with larger valves and one that is just ported.
Like I said though, I don't recommend this for anyone except the die-hard, must have every last bit guys. There are other more cost effective ways to the power.

I'm sort of guessing that this combo, along with an aftermkt header will be the Madness Stage 3 package for which they are claiming 240-245hp...
Ok, time for my **** weight question
While I realize the cam won't shave much, if any, how about the head?
